Just watched her with Andrew Neil. She’s deeply unimpressive.
The six week campaign is not doing her any favours.
The next time someone bangs on about “the right wing media” shaping the narrative for elections and influencing manifestos, they should be reminded about this moment.
The left-wing media have cottoned on to the “dementia tax” tagline and managed to bully May into a U-turn in record time. She is quite shocking in front of a camera.
She is and always has been a model of mediocrity. Will be something else if the election she called to legitimise herself ends up legitimising Corbyn.
May was really bad in that Andrew Neil interview.
So hesitant and unsure, so defensive, and so obvious she didn’t believe anything she was saying.
Her attempts to answer where the extra 8 billion pounds for the NHS would come from was comedy. Neil had to repeat the question several times and she still couldn’t answer.
She ended up pretty much repeating what Damian Green said on Andrew Marr yesterday when was asked the same question - the extra 8 billion for the NHS will come from…the NHS. So no extra 8 billion at all.
That’s Yes, Minister-esque.
Even the chain around her neck looked strangely appropriate.
The whole of the media have cottoned on to the policy as it’s shockingly bad.
The Tories are in chaos. The plan was effectively for May to run a one-woman campaign. She has floundered during it, and then her chief advisor adds an absolutely shocking last minute policy to an already uncosted manifesto, which will push people who face long term care to suicide. The Tories then spend four days saying there is “no chance” of u-turn, before performing a “u-turn” which it then turns out is not even a u-turn.
They can’t even do their u-turns right.
No party has ever messed up their manifesto to such an extent in British politics in living memory.
Now the one-woman campaign May is left looking weak, indecisive, but most importantly, as out to destroy those who face long-term care. But the rest of her front bench are already toxic.
“Strong and stable” has suddenly transformed into weak and wobbly.
And if the overwhelmingly right wing media have cottoned on to the Tories, things must really be in chaos.
The main thing today is that her twitchy right thumb has been noticed now too.
What’s the election date again?
June 8th
Apparently the dementia tax was added at the last minute by Nick Timothy her adviser. Without consultation. A cock up.
Balbec buying into the backtrack and spin like the political novice he is
Whatever you say mate.
I made a comment here a couple of weeks ago about her being an intellectual mediocrity and @Tim_Riggins gave me some blowhole about Oxford being a great university. She’s a fucking dunce.
Being good in the media isn’t the same as book smarts.
The usual emotive drivel from this sidney idiot. The u-turn isn’t a good look but there still needs to be a sensible policy on who pays for social care. Is it fair that someone who owns a house worth $1m, has all their care costs paid for by the government i.e. the taxpayers, they then die and that full wealth is just passed on to their children? The use of the phrase dementia tax is also beyond disingenuous.
As then gen population demographics continues to age and people live longer, social care costs will become unsustainable. Of course Labours great response as ever is tax the super rich, raise corporation tax and free stuff for everyone else. No actual practical policies that will work or won’t ruin the economy, but will make some of the plebs feel warm on the inside.
All fair enough. But no point leaving an open goal in the middle of an election campaign with the opposition in disarray.
Agreed, it hasn’t been handled well to say the least. Hard to know how much damage it has caused.
You’re all over the place lad.
No, that’s simply paying for a service you use.
What are you talking about?
