The Survation and YouGov polls have frightened the shit out of the Tories. If they’re right it’s disastrous. If the younger vote turnout is in line with the 2015 election they could be alright. If it’s in line with the 2010 election they could be fucked.
My understanding is that the talk about YouGov and Survation basing their polls on voting turnout among the young of 80% plus is incorrect.
I think YouGov are working off a figure of 51% turnout among 18-24 year-olds.
These same polls showed leads of 21-24 points for the Tories little over a month ago and are based on the same methodology as then.
Survation’s final poll for the 2015 election got it spot on at 37-31 to the Tories. They didn’t publish it at the time as they assumed it must be wrong because it was such an outlier.
I think it’s a good thing for Labour that the general assumption is that the Tories will still win a comfortable majority. Any complacency among Tory voters will help.
