Some great examples of attitude based, fact free, opinion here from the usual suspect.
Trumps’s win and Brexit are almost solely due to economic factors, with immigration policies (related to economic factors for the populations impacted) a distant second. The root causes came long before the financial crash and it’s aftermath, the trend towards globalization, outsourcing, the new digital economy, etc. started decades ago. Both the US and UK have been transformed from manufacturing based economies to service based economies, with the result that the middle class has been destroyed and more importantly the opportunities to enter the middle class have disappeared.
The economic pain has been regionalized, in the US the northeast and west coasts have done extremely well in the new economy and in the UK the southeast has done extremely well. The rest have largely been left behind and establishment parties have done zero to address this, and why would they as they are all in the pockets of corporate lobbyists. With opportunities for good jobs diminishing, and competition for lower end jobs increasing, it is hardly surprising that the populations actually impacted resist immigration policies that add more competition to an already crowded marketplace.
The above affects all ethnic groups, not just whites. Trump’s entire campaign was based on reversing the above dynamic and focused on job creation. Anyone arguing otherwise just wasn’t paying attention to the campaign. The meme that in both the US and the UK people voted for Trump and Brexit to restore a “white” country is simply nonsensical garbage. In the US the largest and fastest growing minority ethnic group are Hispanics, and according to exit polls 29% of Hispanics voted for Trump. Why the fuck would almost a third of Hispanics vote for Trump if they saw him wanting to restore some kind of “white” country? Hispanics voted for Trump for the same reasons that whites voted for Trump, jobs and opportunities.
The reality is every election is primarily about the economy. In the US, both parties have been completely out of touch with how the evolving economy over the past several decades has impacted the lives of most working people. The argument that Democrats care more is risible, given the experience of 8 years of the Obama administration with did nothing to address any of the underlying issues.
The US economy is actually doing OK, and if the proposed tax plan passes it will be a tremendous boost to small businesses, who are the primary job creators, and to business investment. In an environment of growing economic opportunities (for those that want to avail of it), that points to a Trump reelection in 2020, regardless of left wing whinging and accusations of racism.
