US Politics - A Society in Meltdown

It took me 20 seconds to find that, mate

You are a conspiracy theorist nutcase

Just for my own information. Is his / her profile a troll / joke profile, or are we dealing with somebody who believes what he / she is saying?

Great viewing tonight, the radical left democrats having their little fake news debate

This is going well :grinning:

LOLZ :joy:

Proud of Don Lemon calling out the Democrats about the 300% increase in gun ownership during the disastrous obama administration.

Tragic

A great night for Biden.

I’m surprised Trump hasn’t proposed a burqa ban yet. You’d think it would suit his agenda and his unique selling point. He could wrap it up with banning gangland balaclavas and KKK hoods. It would be a pointless and divisive dispute for him, which is the sort of thing he usually likes.

Would the US conservatives have cultural difficulties with a burqa ban owing to its great respect for freedom of speech and individualism or would they just be like “fuck the Mussies”, @anon7035031?

Complete contrast between the two nights debates. Last night was much more combative with both Biden and Harris having targets on their backs. Tuesday night was tame in comparison, as other than the Sanders and Warren, the rest of the candidates are lightweight and all bar Pete will drop out shortly. Booker, Gabbard and Castro will not win the nomination but all are far superior candidates than most on the stage Tuesday night. Yang is an interesting outsider and has the advantage of understanding how the economy actually works.

Until Sanders and Warren are on the same stage as Biden and Harris and take direct flak for being too far left and out of the mainstream, the race is completely open. There is huge concern now that the platform is being dragged too far left. 54% of Americans do not want private insurance eliminated, and a 2:1 majority do not want to see illegal entry to the country decriminalized or free health care given to illegals. That’s nationwide, in the swing states these numbers are more extreme. Yet progressives think these are winning strategies.

The attacks on Harris for being “too hard on crime” are ludicrous, she was an extremely popular DA in the most liberal city in the US. Under her watch the conviction rate for the most serious crimes like murder and large scale drug dealing increased significantly, while she also started the Back on Track initiative to avoid prison sentences for less serious crimes. She may have taken a few shots last night but this is one tough lady who won’t back down from anyone.

So no change, Biden will continue to slide, Bernie will also fade, and it will come down to Warren and Harris.

Europe seems to be the only place banning burkas, up to seven countries now I think?

What put this in my mind is the Netherlands tried to introduce a burqa ban this week but the both the cops and the bus companies said they weren’t going to enforce it so it fell apart.

I just think it’s strange that it’s such a big controversy in Europe but no American conservative has ever tried to import it. You’d think politicians are always looking for policies and attention. So I was wondering if there was a cultural reason the the yanks don’t like it.

It would be one of the biggest and bitterest cases in US Supreme Court history.

It would be a violation of the first amendment so not going to happen here.

U.S. Deported a Detroit Man to Iraq, Where He’d Never Been and Didn’t Speak the Language. He Died on the Streets.

By ELLIOT HANNON

AUG 08, 2019

In June, the U.S. government deported 41-year-old Jimmy Aldaoud to Iraq. Aldaoud, who was born in Greece, said he had lived in the U.S. since he was 6 months old and had never even been to Iraq, the country where he was technically a national. Aldaoud was residing in a small Detroit metro area community of Chaldean Catholics, a branch of the Roman Catholic Church whose roots are in present-day Iraq, when immigration officials showed up, detained him, and ultimately put him on a plane to Baghdad. Aldaoud did not speak Arabic. He did not have a home or any contacts there. Aldaoud was also a diabetic, and on Tuesday, he died in a country that was not his own from what appeared to be a lack of access to insulin, according to family friends and the American Civil Liberties Union.

In a heartbreaking video taken on what appears to be the streets of Baghdad weeks after being deported there, Aldaoud describes how he was pulled over by immigration officials and put on a plane. “They wouldn’t listen to me,” he said. “They wouldn’t let me call my family. Nothing. They just said: You’re going to Iraq and your best bet is to cooperate with us. That way we’re not going to chain you up; we’ll put you on a commercial flight. I begged them. I said, ‘Please, I’ve never seen that country. I’ve never been there.’ However, they forced me. I’m here now.”

I said, ‘Please, I’ve never seen that country. I’ve never been there.’ However, they forced me. I’m here now.”

Immigration attorney Edward Bajoka, who described himself as a close family friend of the Aldaouds, said Aldaoud suffered from paranoid schizophrenia and his mental illness led to encounters with the law in Michigan, including disorderly conduct and home invasion charges, which prompted his deportation to Iraq. “I don’t understand the language. I’ve been sleeping in the street,” Aldaoud said in the video of his new life in Iraq. “I’m diabetic. I can’t get insulin shots. I’ve been throwing up, sleeping in the streets, trying to find something to eat. I’ve got nothing over here.”

“Jimmy Aldaoud, a Chaldean resident of Oakland County, should have never been sent to Iraq,” Rep. Andy Levin, a Democrat from Michigan, said in a statement on Twitter. “It was clear that deporting Jimmy to a country where he had never been, had no identification, had no family, had no knowledge of geography or customs, did not speak the language and ultimately, had no access to medical care, would put his life in extreme danger.”

“Rest In Peace Jimmy,” Bajoka wrote in a Facebook post Wednesday. “Your blood is on the hands of ICE and this administration.”
