US Politics - A Society in Meltdown

The interesting line on the Trump-Ukraine testimony which I heard today today is that Ukraine launching such an investigation would “undoubtedly result in Ukraine losing bipartisan support, undermine US national security, and advance Russia’s strategic objectives in the region”,

A win-win for Trump & Russia

What Russia does is identify faultlines and relentlessly tries to drive at them to split its opponents

The US is Russia’s biggest enemy

Not Trump, obviously - the US - Trump is the enemy of the US from within

Russia unequivocally supports Trump because they know he is destroying US society and politics from within

Getting Trump to undermine Ukrainian politics and the rule of law there is certianly a way of undermining Ukraine in its defence against Russia and weakens their hand in any negotiations, because if Ukraine defies Trump, which it did, US support for it is then undermined

Interestingly, Putin’s invasion of Ukraine has turned Ukrainian public sentiment significantly against Russia and sigificantly towards Europe, which was the opposite effect of what he wanted

It’s amazing how the Russians have the inside track on what’s happening inside the US government, as it happens

Or, to put it another way, entirely predictable

The Yanks sent Rick Perry to the inauguration instead, who “negotiated” a corrupt 50 year oil and gas exploration deal for his cronies in the face of a higher bidder

That quote came from Colonel Vindman I’m pretty sure. Vindman outed himself today as the effective whistleblower, someone who was identified by his previous boss and others in the White House as a leaker and exhibiting poor judgement. Vindman’s motivation may have been honorable, but the reality is he ran to his CIA buddy (and not to his superior, strange for a lad in uniform) after the Trump call, who was a registered Democrat and had worked for Joe Biden, and fed him an embellished version of what happened on the Trump call. This is what set this whole thing in motion. So effectively you have a CIA agent, part of an agency that has no role within the US, starting a partisan impeachment process.

What Trump did was wrong, but Democrats are running a high risk game here. There is very little interest among the public in these proceedings and with no convincing evidence emerging of actual bribery, the Senate will exonerate him which will be another victory for him. Meanwhile Democrats who were elected in 2018 on a platform of improving health care, helping working people and starting infrastructure projects, are once again ignoring the issues that matter to their voters.

You’re still sprouting the same old nonsense even after it’s been rubbished several times.

Russia poses zero threat to the US and has no leverage over the US, it’s economy is the size of Texas or Italy. China is the economic threat to the US, and is also the biggest threat to human rights on the planet, given their size and treatment of their own people. Russia is a threat to Europe given how reliant Europe is on Russian energy.

The “Trump is a Russian asset” is deeply flawed and a child could see through it. Obama rubbished his rival Romney for still thinking it was the Cold War era and that Russia was a threat. Obama did nothing to repel the Russians when they invaded Ukraine, and refused to provide lethal military equipment to help Ukraine defend themselves. The whole Trump is a Russian agent narrative falls apart given that Trump has been providing lethal military help to Ukraine for the past three years in their war with Russia. If he were Putin’s puppet he would not be siding with Ukraine.

That’s a classic @anon7035031 post - disregard actual reality and throw in a few irrelevant non-sequiturs to try and convince yourself you’re right though you know full well you’re wrong

Your lack of knowledge about Russia is unsurprising - your lack of knowledge about what’s happening in America is frightening

“Extortion is OK, as long as it’s not corrupt extortion, which it isn’t if we do it!”

Sondland is throwing Guilliani under the bus :joy:

He’s throwing them all under the bus. From the Guardian below.

Sondland continuously clarifies that what Trump wanted through Giuliani was an announcement of investigations as distinct and separate from actual investigations.

The difference being that only one of those things can be used in a campaign video attacking Joe Biden.

Trump has just thrown Guillani under the bus, he is actually cracking up here

Attorneys are dispensible, ask Michael Cohen.

Nunes would make Danny Healy Rae seem like Stephen Hawking in comparison

It’s genuinely astounding how thick he is

Nunes is comedy gold here.

The face of a man who sues parody INTERNET cows

The fool wouldn’t last half an hour on a town council in Ireland

Hilarious

Nunes was working for Parnas who was working for Giuliani who was working for Trump

Nunes will now get subpoeaned and refuse to face questions from his own committee

He’s going to have a hell of a job hiding in the toilet before going back in to do his Curb Your Enthusiasm act
