If you were in Ireland in the 80s would you be equally scoffing at the Dunnes workers protests about apartheid in South Africa, for example?

That’s simply not true. Lot’s of white boys, antifa involved and instigating it but don’t ignore the facts and videos on the ground to push a narrative.

One of the demands if the protesters is that the murdering police officer would be tried for 1st degree murder rather than 3rd degree murder, which is the current plan.
Whilst obviously very sympathetic to these nice protester people I would be very reluctant to interfere with the public prosecutor. The PP wants to get a conviction, if they reckon 3rd degree is their best chance then they should be allowed carry on with their job.
I see a huge risk that there is political interference to get a trial for 1st degree murder, the murdered gets off and then you have rioting across the US similar to what happened during the LA riots. Remember how the LA riots only peaked after not guilty verdict. There could be big similarities but this could end up even more widespread.

No idea, I wasn’t alive for much of the 80s.
People can protest however they like. I’d just question their motives and strongly suspect they do it for Instagram likes and virtue signaling rather than any deep hatred of racism. Otherwise I’d have heard from a few of them on the subject before I suspect.
