US Politics - A Society in Meltdown

Absolutely disgusting. Fair play to the national guard guys refusing to participate in this.

Shouldn’t you be out protesting against your government refusing to allow any refugees into the country?
Are you afraid you would get your square head bashed in further?
You live in a fascist shithole mate, accept it and stop projecting onto others.

It must be if they can put up with a stupid cunt like you.,

Guys, lots of insults flying around this thread. Let’s try to keep things civil.

I suppose we should give some credit to trump as his actions seem to be exposing the horrible situation on the border not just on his watch but under previous administrations! In other news the U.S. Senate approved, 85-10, a $716 billion defense spending bill Monday for fiscal year 2019. Great to see both parties can work across the aisles on the important stuff. :joy:

In fairness the USA is one of the least densely populated countries in the world and its birthrate has hit a historic low. If any country could do with and could cope with an influx of immigrants, it’s the USA. It’ll be no good having all these great reinvigorated US industries if there’s no-one to work in them.

They want immigrants just not the brown ones.

Yurt.

No ones really objecting to people being locked up, we almost do that in this country with direct provision, the issue was deliberate separation. That was not a widespread policy pre-Trump.

A few weeks ago we had both the official No campaign in the 8th Amendment referendum, which was heavily funded by US interests, as well as several posters here, expressing their outrage at how babies with Down’s Syndrome were going to be exterminated, or something.

Presumably they’ll be now be outraged about the treatment of an actual child with Down’s Syndrome?

Or perhaps not.

Speak for yourself

The US doesn’t exist in a vacuum, it’s a subset of global population growth which is unsustainable. The birthrate in the US is 2.0, similar to western Europe, which is a healthy rate for sustainable growth allied with a sensible immigration policy. The population is estimated to grow from 326 million today to 400 million in 2050, the majority of that driven by immigrants and their descendants. The solution to the world’s overpopulation problem, which is going to get worse before it gets better, is accelerating education/programs to lower fertility rates globally.

The next generation of industries will be automated and run by robots (many already are), so I’m afraid there’s no future demand for labor there.

Of the roughly 1.2 million legal immigrants to the US each year, the top countries are 15% Mexico, 7% China, 6% India, 5% Philippines, Cuba, El Salvador, Vietnam, Dominican Republic. There are relatively few European immigrants.

The shriekers won’t like you confronting them with facts, mate

Here, trump’s deadly craic altogether. Wouldn’t you agree?

You can thank the kennnedys for ending legal irish migration to the US

DP is a disgraceful scheme in itself but shouldnt be compared in any way to this. As you said no separation but kids can go also to school, mix with locals and are free to come and go as they please on a day to day basis. Its not right but its a damn sight better than whats happening here
