The USA is the most naturally beautiful country on earth

I would imagine in terms of quality of life, and how the state provides for its citizens that any of the Scandinavian countries, or even Australia would be streets ahead of the USA for the average Joe on an average salary.
I don’t know many people in the US, but the odd few I do know of are doing well, but were headhunted from Ireland, so would have done well in Ireland too. Very intelligent people, so the yanks probably made them an offer they couldn’t refuse, and who could blame them. Munster or California…

I think if you have a decent job living in the US, then you’re standard if living is way higher than it would be with a similar job here in Ireland.

Obviously there are exceptions like New York or San Francisco where rent or property prices would be skyhigh, but overall it looks to me like you can live much better over there.

Munster is only the third best Irish province and I’d still have it streets ahead of California.

California reminds me of that Stewart Lee sketch where he takes the piss out of “expats” in “the former British colony of New Canastralia.”

“Quality of life, Stew, you can’t put a price on it.”

“Culture? No, Stew, we don’t have any culture here but quality of loife, Stew, you can’t put a price on it.”

“It’s loike being dead.”

I wouldn’t be convinced of this.

I’ve been to America many many times over the years between work and holidays.

There had been a noticeable decline in my last few visits.
My impression of the place went from “God, I’d really love to live here” to “jesus, this place doesn’t feel safe at all” in the space of a few years.

Trending towards how I feel about the UK. Bleak.

Ireland is far from perfect and Dublin doesn’t exactly put me at ease these days either but I don’t imagine my standard of living would be much if at all better in the US compared to here. The lower taxes would be the biggest benefit.

The lower taxes aren’t much of a benefit if the infrastructure, health system, education and personal safety is falling to pieces around you.

If you are on a decent salary and live in a decent area then there is very little difference in terms of standard of living between the US, western Europe, Canada and Australia. Some factors of standard of living are better, some are worse, but overall it’s similar.

Higher salaries and lower taxes translate to higher disposable income, which on average is 50% higher in the US than other western countries (60k versus 40k). Some of that is eaten up in higher health insurance costs but most employers heavily subsidize those costs. Third level education is an absolute rip off.

Are the US about to invade Venezuela? In the same manner Russia invaded Ukraine… under the pretence of clearing out bad actors…

No mate, the last of the great neo-cons, Dick Cheney, died a couple months ago. America is all isolationist and stuff now.

It’s hard to know, don probably expected them to have backed down by now. But they haven’t, so now he’s going for publicity stunts- murdering lads in boats, stealing an oil tanker. But sooner or later he’ll have to shit or get off the pot.

In other news, putin has pledged to support Venezuela. This might mean world war, but then again, he might mean support them in the sense that the west is supporting Ukraine…just encourage them enough to provoke a war that irritates their (the west’s) adversary…even if it destroys them in the process.
Such reciprocity bodes well for future relations

I would say the main issue is the pathway to having a decent job in Ireland vs the US is so much easier with college being so expensive over there

Would he consider moving a few missiles there?

My sources in Honduras say they’re already there
