If Trump wins the sun will not rise for a lot of people.
The state of the world is so bad right now and threatens to get so much worse that what we see is a sort of tuning out to the grotesqueness of it all and reflex reaction by a certain type of white reactionary man, especially in countries like Ireland which are about as well insulated from all this as itâs possible to be.
They retreat into treating this grotesqueness as merely âentertainmentâ. They themselves can do this because they think they wonât be affected. And indeed white men in Ireland may well be the least affected people in the world by the polycrisis of Russiaâs war on Ukraine, the Middle East, Sudan and Trump.
But what this retreat into treating all this grotesqueness as âentertainmentâ displays is a total disregard for people who donât look like you, a rejection of a common humanity, a deep racism that treats the deaths of people who donât look like you as acceptable.
But Ireland wonât escape completely unscathed if Trump wins. US multi-national corporations will likely exercise voluntary obedience to the Trump/Israel cabal, and it could ruin our economy. Ireland as a country - for all its faults in this regard and for all its jiggery pokery regarding being a tax haven - is seen as a place where the rule of law prevails. Itâs seen as a country hostile to Israel and to Russia and to the likes of Elon Musk. If the trans-national criminal Nazi mafia made up of Trump, Putin, Musk, Netanyahu etc. gains global domination, as seems likely, the world suddenly becomes a cold house for a country like Ireland.
The effects on Ireland and Irish people will still only be very minor compared to those suffered by the less fortunate around the world.
Would be hilarious if the Trumpbots who are all in on the conspiracy fantasy that yer man Hinchcliffe was a Democrat plant to derail Trump now go after Rogan as the puppetmaster.
JD Vance says he hasnât heard the racist joke made at the expense of Porto Rico. Iâm in a (leafy) suburb of Cork, Ireland and Iâve heard it, multiple times, but the guy who is up for VP hasnât.
