Which fuckin thread is it to be then??
Unreal.
Going to be a race war in Thurles tomorrow.
Itâs very sad to see whatâs going on over there considering that this is supposed to be one of if not the wealthiest countries in the world.
The divide between rich and poor is staggering, add to that the ease of access to firearms in certain statesâŚit unfortunately isnât surprising whatâs happening.
Saying that the video of the guy being shot with his GF recording it was appalling.
The divide between the haves and the have-nots is the crux of the problem in Western countries. Race only exacerbates the issue
I would put the blame more so at cultural norms then race.
Education is the route out of poverty, unfortunately though education or a proper one isnât always accessible in the inner cities in the US. Granted it was a TV show but season 4 of the Wire I think summed it up perfectly.
Itâs all in the game yo.
Gap between black and white standard of living was closing until introduction of crack
Itâs definitely a factor and the divide is getting bigger. Itâs root cause is a political class that are completely owned by the 0.1% and really donât give a fuck about their constituents. Thatâs true of both parties in the US, regardless of the pretend games they play, neither one wants anything to change. They are playing a very dangerous game that is getting increasingly dangerous.
Not so much anymore mate but it was the spark that ignited the fuse originally imo.
The ridiculous percentage of families without a father figure is even more damaging now then all drugs combined.
That fella has a lot to answer for too even though he paid the ultimate price, making âthug lifeâ a mainstream phenomenon is some feat for a lad with a black panther family background.
The drugs and consequent prison sentences, murders, debilitation removes lots of fathers from black community and in that vacuum a culture of murder has evolved as kids grow up in a normality of pulling a trigger to settle a score.
It really comes down to the volume of firearms and ease of access to them the more I think about it.
Those social issues are most likely just as proportional in certain suburbs in London for example, but the murder rate is in no way comparable.
Culture is a huge part of the problem. For those not that familiar with the US, the easiest way to think about it from an Irish perspective is the way travelers are regarded in Ireland. Calling it racism is far too shallow as all races are racist, its a much deeper problem relating to cultural differences. Education is absolutely the solution, but look at the problems on a much smaller scale in Ireland trying to change traveler attitudes to education, and adapting to what most people regard as acceptable behavior in society. Itâs not a trivial problem to solve, and throwing money at it doesnât do much. The US spends more per capita than any country in the Western world on education, but it makes no difference when you are dealing with a culture that sees no value in education.
I would argue the barriers to bridging the gap between poor and rich are extremely low in the US, but the biggest problem is breaking out of the anti education culture to start the process. Itâs a country that gives enormous help to those that want to put in the effort, for example any kid willing to work hard in school from a poor background will get scholarships to attend private schools and will get a free ride through college. Stanford, just one example, has waived tuition for all families making less than $125K. The problem is getting on the first rung of the ladder, after that there are very few barriers.
Education is a mythical concept for the vast majority of the human race. Thatâs a truth lost on the vast majority of educated people. The world will be turned on its head by the time your great grandkids even have the chance to be complaining about college feeâs
Surely people generally would hope things would be more comfortable as each generation passes though. How do you see the situation getting worse - over population?
