The USSR is the prototype for all subsequent failed socialist states (eastern Europe, Vietnam, Cambodia, North Korea, Cuba, and now Venezuela). Thankfully there are no western democracies that have succumbed to this garbage ideology as yet.

There are a myriad of reasons for the collapse of Venezuela. None of which have anything to do with socialism. All economic systems headed up by unaccountable dictators end up with the poor being screwed by the elite, be they nominally socialist (Venezuela) or capitalist (Chile under Pinochet to use a local comparison). It doesn’t matter what you call it, capitalism or socialism or communism as long as there is a minority elite in control they will always twist the state to their advantage thereby enriching themselves at the expense of the majority.
If it wasn’t for socialists fighting for workers rights not to have to risk their life and limb every day and get a fair days pay we’d all be living in mud wall cabins, unfettered capitalism is as bad as unfettered socialism, if not way worse.

Because a lot of people like to talk about socialism as if it is the “Nordic model”.

Venezuela is what Jeremy Corbyn is after, not the Nordic model. Corbyn is now refusing to comment on this paradise, after years of telling everyone how great this is.

It is important to point this out. We are treated to our daily dose of capitalism bashing and bashing of the West from self loathing westerners. When the myths they propagate fall down like this, it must be called out.
