*From the opposition benches, Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams expressed his sadness at the death of the long-time president saying that he had worked “tirelessly” to improve the lives of Venezuelan citizens.
“He dedicated himself to building a new and radical society in Venezuela,” Adams said.
His progressive social and economic changes took millions out of poverty. He extended free health care and education for all citizens and his re-election last year with a huge majority was testimony to his vision.”
Adams said that the “energetic and enthusiastic leader” will be “greatly missed.”*
At least Michael D Higgins is a figurehead.
These lads loved a good ol Latin American despot that impoverished a nation.
Chavez, who was fond of saying being rich was bad, died with a net worth of over $1 billion. His daughter is now reported to be worth over $4 billion. Meanwhile 3 million of Venezuela’s 8 million school age children don’t go to school as they are busy scrounging for food on the street.
“uses it’s oil revenues to improve the quality of ordinary lives” Pilger should really visit Venezuela today and see how the lives of ordinary people have improved.
Uses it’s oil revenue to line the pockets of it’s leaders. Maduro the bus driven is a multi millionaire, as is everyone in senior government. The ordinary people of Venezuela should have the best standard of living by far in South America and they have the worst, due to corrupt imbeciles that aren’t capable of running a hen house let alone a country.
Of course it’s about control. Since WWII the US has fought wars and intervened in countries almost exclusively to maintain capitalism, regardless of what kind of regime needs to be supported to do so. It has to be said it’s the lesser of two evils if you look at the history of the alternatives (USSR/China and all other countries following their models).
Agreed, doesn’t make it right though. They’ve red lines now drawn right from South China Sea to Russia. Playing games all around it. Sure what can we do…

In fairness when you look at the speed at which these two nations have evolved from being feudal, medieval societies you’d have to conclude that China in particular has done very well. I’d give Russia a could do better mark at the moment but it is still aeons ahead of where it was 100 years ago.
If you look objectively at the facts and measure everything up in a balanced fashion are you not inexorably drawn to the conclusion that it’s better to be a dullard than a Miggledy supporting gimp?
Since you signed up looking for pictures that you shouldn’t be looking for we can safely assume you are a bit of a freak and we should pay no attention to you.
