Versus La Manga Superstars - 08/10/07

Yet again it’s a depleted tfk squad that meets our week 1 conquerors in Sandymount tonight (7pm kick-off). We’re missing our captain Rocko (ankle), top scorer Juhniallio (groin), perennially injured striker ClarkeyCat (thigh/mind), other striker Jugs (knee) and midfield lynchpin Smelly (cold/flu). In addition, Ro and Kylo are ruled out through work commitments.

It’ll be a huge ask of the side but the mood is determined.

Team (1-3-1):
Bandage (gk),
Tinnion,
Fats, Farmer, Colly,
Rob.

Subs: AN Other x 2.

What’s the deal with playing them again?

We should be well able to beat them, despite our deficiencies. Big game for Tinnion with a chance to hold down a place in Rocko’s absence. Rob might earn himself a contract for next season if he puts in a decent shift.

It says everything about the players’ respect for me that they delivered a confidence boosting 2-1 victory tonight as I lay on my sick bed. When I fell ill over the weekend all I wanted from today was three points. The lads have delivered. I’m immensely proud.

There’s been many, many outstanding freekick displays but that one must be top of the pile.

A real backs to the wall, defiant performance where we refused to even contemplate a draw, never mind a defeat.

I’ve never been prouder to be the last line of defence behind this band of brothers than I was with us clinging on desperately tonight.

As I surveyed a series of dart green tfk jerseys fooking flying into tackles as we heroically defended our 2-1 lead, it even brought a tear to my eye.

Goals by Rob and a bullet header by Fats who was perpetual motion all night.

Kudos to all the boys. It was fooking marvellous stuff.

A title challenge was launched in earnest (and in the YMCA Grounds, Sandymount) tonight.
