This is the problem. The same good ol boys who umpired with you back in your junior a days should not be going to croker with you.
You do realise that refs still have to referee club games after they get appointed to the inter county panel?
no good throwing money about, you want lads who actually have an interest in doing it and will do a good job of it and not lads who are looking to become umpires so they can make a few handy quid for standing beside a post for a couple of hours.
Refereeing/officiating is a thankless enough job
Really? No way? I though it was odd that there was two different Alan Kellyâs and christy brownes who looked exactly the same doing games in Galway and intercounty league games. Iâm saying there should be a panel of intercounty umpires that have no connection to the refs but who have all their mental faculties and vision intact. Not some 60 year old gobdaw who gets frightened by crowds and loud noises but goes to croker so he can look at himself on the Sunday game back in the local that night.
Thatâs a cracking word.

You want people, nothing wrong with women doing it, who are calm, have clear vision, are agile enough to go behind the posts to get a better angle without falling over and who are unbiased and know the rules and their jobs.

60 isnât exactly ancient. Liked Mickey Wadding.
My cousin was the first female referee to officiate at a Meath Championship match at any level. Not something the family is proud of.

I should really have stated that any potential buuuurds we allow near the pitch in croke park should be foxy recent immigrants from the eastern bloc. Eugenics and a youth spent doing gymnastics ensures they have the requisite physical attributes, their firm yet inviting demeanour commands respect and the fact they werenât raised to be overweight sexually frustrated pint swilling ogres who serve no purpose other than a vent for their fathers sporting regrets and anguish at not having sons, like our rural females are, would make them the perfect option.
FOAD
Appendage is getting the hole kicked off him all over the forum today
I canât possibly complete with wit like that.
You compete me
o_O Yikes.
Bit harsh on McAllister who wouldnât be the worst of them.
Anthony Stapleton didnât come up to the level required but I have sympathy for him as I know him and heâs a thoroughly alright sort.
Amazed to see that septic little goblin James McGrath kept on. He wouldnât referee a cockfight.
No regrets over Michael Pudding though. Still havenât forgiven him for the blackguarding he gave Limerick in 2001 v Wexford.

Spot on here Elvis.
+1. How David OâConnor wasnât sent off for nearly killing Barry Foley Iâll never know. Iâm still furious about it.

Of course money is the answer. Itâs the one fucking thing holding guys back. A tiered system for the levels with more money for leaving the county ( thus going up a level).
At Amatuer level here they get 100 dollars a game. Thatâs a nice addition to your week to be involved in something you, should, enjoy. Thatâs taxed but does not include expenses.
Mcallister is probably getting fucked for not pulling into line with the rest of the refs and being somewhat individual.
