4 weeks was a long wait between an All Ireland Final and a replay. Waterford played a challenge match against Wexford two weeks either side of the draw and replayed 1959 final.

Jesus Wexford were back training for 1960 early. I assume the league started in the autumn back in those days? It paid off anyway as they won Liam the following year with their most convincing final victory ever.

It’s lucky it was straight knockout back then or Waterford wouldn’t have finished their club championships until the following year. No Munster club deadlines in 1959 of course.

Sure they just handed the News and Star Cup to Mount Sion in those days. It was easier for all concerned.

Is it true there’s no parish rule in Waterford?

Not entirely sure what the rule is but the Waterford county board rejected transfer requests from two former intercounty players this year with their basis that the players weren’t going to be playing for their parish. Both ended up playing for Glenmore in the finish.

There is no parish rule, but in that case the 2 lads wanted to play football with their home parishes, but play hurling with a random team 15 miles away.
