Are we looking at a Patsy Fanning type year under Peter Queally and his big nose?
That was the one thing I remembered about Peter Queally as a player, his big nose.
True but extremely boring story: At the 1994 All-Ireland hurling final (very back corner of Hill 16 beside the new half finished Cusack Stand, you had to get down on your knees to see the play when it was in the Canal/Cusack corner) when Damien Quigley of Limerick was running riot, me oulâ fella kept referring to him as Damien âQueallyâ. I knew it was Quigley and tried to correct him, but I ended up going with the flow. âAnother goal by Damien Queally. Another point by Damien Queally. Queally has got 2 goals and 3 points now!â
He got one lovely point in the second half which could/should have been a goal where he pulled on a loose ball somewhere between the 14 and the 21 and hit it âtoo wellâ and directed it up towards the Toyota clock and over the bar rather than into the back of the net which surely would have killed the game.
Quigley as you say was to blame for Limerick losing that day due to him not hitting 2-2 in the second half as he had done in the first.
Waterford had enough good players with experience of big games at club and county to beat carlow. Jamie barron, prendergast, Bennett, Mark Fitz, Patrick Fitz, conor Sheehan etc.
After all Chris Nolan and Kavanagh contributed 2-13 between them so they carry lot of lads.
If ballygunner played carlow Iâd be backing ballygunner every time.
Iâd say Franks is gone. There was talks previously that he was only going to stay so long as he had ambitions himself he wants to follow. Will be a huge loss.
Be interesting to see who Ryan brings in with him. Budget would be very big in Ballygunner.
I heard they sounded out Sheedy and Cusack for the manager role too.
My sources tell me the players wrote a letter to the club chairman telling him they didnât want Fergal as manager, so perhaps thatâs why he turned it down.
There was always tension between the Sullivan/Mahonys and the Hartleys as to who actually ran the club.
Ouch. âThe playersâ is often a misleading term too, without saying how many of the players did or didnât want him. Player groups, even in high performing setups, can often be lead by a handful of individuals.
