A non story really. The young lad being âgoadedâ is from Ballygunner too, just seems to be keeping his own emotions in check like the rest of the section which appears to be made up almost entirely of Ballygunner people. The auld lad seems an excitable sort but you get those lads at matches. Heâs probably slagging the young lad for not being out there himself.

Tadhg de BĂșrca, Patrick Curran, Peter Hogan, Ian Kenny and Austin Gleeson are among a number of Waterford hurlers who will not be part of the panel next season.
The inter-county future of Dessie Hutchinson is also uncertain and is unlikely to be made clear until Ballygunnerâs season has concluded.
Once hailed as the best centre-back in the country, Clashmore-Kinsalebeg man de BĂșrca won two All-Stars in 2015, when he was also acknowledged young hurler of the year, and â20. The 31-year-old suffered cruciate tears in 2019 and in the â20 All-Ireland final defeat to Limerick.
Gleeson, the 2016 hurler and young hurler of the year, had been in and out of the panel the past couple of seasons under Peter Queally. The Mount Sion star, also 31, had stepped away from the panel in 2024.

Hogan, 29, and Kenny, 33, have been instrumental in Ballygunnerâs success in recent times but neither will be involved with the county. Hogan debuted at senior inter-county level in 2016 and Kenny made his first appearance six years ago.
Curran, 30, made his first senior appearance for The DĂ©ise in 2015 and was captain of the countyâs All-Ireland winning U20 panel of 2016. Kieran Bennett, 31, is understood to be unavailable for the foreseeable future.
Hutchinson, the national club hurler of the 2025-26 season,
is believed to be considering his inter-county future. The former Waterford captain will be leading the Ballygunner forward line against the Limerick champions in Novemberâs Munster semi-final as they look to retain the provincial and All-Ireland crowns.
As many as 11 players who were part of this yearâs set-up may not be returning in 2027, which would mark one of the biggest overhauls in recent times.
In 2019, three-time All-Star Noel Connors and Maurice Shanahan were dropped by Liam Cahill, the same month Michael âBrickâ Walsh decided to bring down the curtain on his inter-county career. Phillp Mahony retired a few months later.
In an open letter last month, Waterford manager Stephen Molumphy had promised there would be alterations to the squad he inherited from Peter Queally.
âMoving forward, there will be change within the panel,â he wrote in a social media post published by the Waterford County Board. âWe intend to introduce a significant number of new players and give opportunities to players who we believe can contribute to Waterford senior hurling in 2027 and beyond.
âWe know that the people of PortlĂĄirge want to see our emerging talent given an opportunity, and we are absolutely committed to doing that. We have a responsibility to develop the next generation of Waterford hurlers while also building a competitive senior team. Those two objectives can and must go hand in hand.â
Stephen Bennett, who is expected to be in the shake-up for an All-Star nomination later this month, suffered a knee injury in the Munster SHC defeat to Cork in May. He returned to play in goal for his club Ballysaggart and is not believed to have made a decision about his inter-county future.

Curranâs time was up and so too Kenny, but TDB led Clashmore to a County Intermediate title and Peter Hogan was rightly or wrongly, winning captain and MOTM in the Senior final so i dont think they were fellas to be making an example of and it just gives lads a stick to beat Molumphy with.
Austin is a big conundrum but I dont think Molumphy has anywhere near the managerial credibility built up to cast aside the most talented hurler in the county before the season starts either.
Wording of the article seems to leave it open as to whether or not some have walked of their own accord?
It reads to me like the week after the County Final is over, Molumphy has made a few phone calls.
The last thing the Ballygunner lads in particular would have been thinking of surely is their I/C futures last week.
So for it all to happen so suddenly and together seems like a management instigated move.
TDB is in the category of lads that have given so much they should be allowed the opportunity to be part of the panel and fight for a place if theyâre good enough. Can see why youâd move on from Gleeson but wouldnât you want to give him a chance and see if he offers anything.
I donât know what Tadhgâs situation is, maybe he indicated that heâs retiring and hasnât been dropped, hopefully so because he doesnât deserve to be dropped. He has had a phenomenal career, came back from serious injuries when it would have been easier to walk away.
The others that have been dropped shouldnât have any qualms, they are there long enough and anything they were going to do in a Waterford jersey has been done. Time to rebuild for the future.
Peter Hogan has been given multiple chances on the county team and has proved time and again that at that level he is a nothing hurler.
Austin was given the choice of announcing his retirement or being dropped.
