Wazza is Back

He comes on against Pompey and scores twice. Hes not peaked yet.

Nah, he peaked when he was 18 in Euro 2004.

Great goal though. A slightly lesser quality version of the one Naka got last month against Dundee United.

I didnt see that goal so cant compare. Intresting to see who United draw in the next round. I sense a Manchester Derby.

Had a look @ Naka’s goal on youtube. How you could say that Rooneys is lesser quality is a ridiculous statement. Rooneys is by far the better goal hi5

Naka’s goal was sublime - he had far less time and space to execute it.

What a load of shite this thread is

The fact that he scores against Portsmouth in the FA Cup means nothing.

I would point more to the fact that he has not scored in Europe since his debut for United

Another thing that pisses me off - people saying what a player will be like in a couple of years. Just because a player is brilliant when he is 17 DOES NOT mean that he will be even better as he gets older. Look at Giggs, Owen etc…

Sort of agree with you there Farmer - too much is made of potential in assessing the value or worth of players. It’s laughable to hear people talk about Rooney as maybe the best player in the world. He’s a million miles from that. Think you’re a little harsh on Owen and Giggs though. If Owen could stay fit he’d be a super striker. Giggs has had fluctuations in form but he’s a top class winger for the last 10 years which isn’t easy.

There’s no harm in speculating what a player will be like in a few years’ time - I love when people go on record saying Stephen Clemence or someone is going to be world class in three or four years. Then they just disappear.

I’ve no problem with people speculating but using it as concrete evidence is another thing

I agree completely on Giggs and Owen but the point is they are no better than they were when they were 17

Yeah that’s what I was trying to say - it’s one thing engaging in speculation, it’s another stating potential as fact.

Also you’re right on Owen and Giggs.

I think Rooney is a good striker but no different to other good young strikers in Europe like Huntelaar at Ajax for example. Had an excellent Euro 2004 but still has an awful lot to do to live up to the ridiculous hype about him in England. And it’s not just misinformed journalists - all the ex-players in the media are constantly salivating over him. As farmer says, he hasn’t scored in the CL since the group stages in 2004 and he has also yet to have a 20 goal season.

I can only assume Mr Longname was taking the piss with the subject matter of this thread…

The fact is that Rooney came off the bench and changed the game so yeah he is back. In the Villa games his touch was awful and looked like a different player.

Did you ever consider calling yourself ‘The Excellence of Execution’ or ‘The Hitman’ or was it always going to be TBTI, WAEWB?

That was too predictable. It was always the best there is, was and ever will be it is. I can only log in with the best there is, was an. I cant log in with the full username. ;D

Sets up Larsson and another great chip. He is back.
