Yes, it’s on in Wexford. Throw a report up here if you’re going please. Jason Ryan is really taking the piss here.
I couldn’t see how dropping boccy could weaken the team, until now…
shane roache (fuck the sigerson) and eric bradley should be on from the start, we are too weak not to have our best team out evey game. Wasn’t too impressed with Byrne or Naughter the last day, and collie at midfield gives me the shudders.
would ye wexicans not be as well off to forget about the football altogether and concentrate on the hurling… cant see the point in being a mediocre dual county… does the fact that ye are ranked behind dublin in hurling nowadays not upset ye lads…as a kilkenny man i find it sad to see ye gone so bad at the hurling … maybe im wrong but your recent love affair with mattie and the big ball must have been some bit detrimental to the hurling in your once proud county…now dont be accusing me of wumming im just curious about what ye lads think…and before ye start shouting go away out of that theres no football in kk, im involved with a dual club in dublin and our season was severely hampered with lads playing football every second week …
Martin Storey gave an interview in the Indo a week or two ago lamenting the decline of hurling in the county and the damage both Soccer and Gaelic Football were doing to it

would all the traditional hurling clubs in wexford take the football seriously as well i wonder! … is there any big dual clubs in clare puke!

Historically not really Kafka, there seems to an emergence of football in some of the bigger clubs in the last few years…Wolfe Tones who would have been seen as a very strong hurling club a few years ago, football would be seen as the number one game underage there now and the same for Doora Barefield, but they seem to have made plans to address this in the last 18 months and hopefully reap the benefits of it in the next few years underage hurling wise…Cratloe and the Mills had decent intermediate football sides the year just gone but hurling would be very much the first game in both clubs…Eire Og would be the only proper duel club in my eyes as they have been competitive in both down through the years and there wouldn’t be too much of a cross over(plenty of lads who just play one or the other)
up at the district games in pats park tonight, roche was playing for the ross district, kicked some lovely frees. banville played too did ok as did deeley, no on of note on wex district team.
Matie togged for the gorey district again, didnt stay very long due to the cold and general poor fare, u21s look good enough
Nobody of note was on the Wexford District team given all the Sars lads have emigrated because of Jason Ryan. Kafka, I will cut you.
Typical Kilkenny attitude
Wexford are beating the inbred cunts by a point at the moment
Edit - 1.6 to 1.4 at the moment at half time
Am listening to midlands radio which I’ve realised is probably running about half an hour behind FFS.
Wexford leading by 3 with 5 mins left. Ciaran Lyng having a right game apparently.
Wexford win by one having been something like 7 points up. Did our best to lose apparently.
Wasn’t at the game today but good to get the win.
It finished 1-14 to 2-10.
I was very frustrated last week with Lyng, Bradley and Roche left on the bench for too long while the game was slipping away from us so it was important that we responded with a win. Lyng was outstanding today according to a couple of the lads - a lesson perhaps for Jason Ryan to start our best forward every time he’s available.
We’ve got 3 more home games and we’ll probably need to win all of them and then get a result in Cavan or Roscommon to be in the promotion shake up.
Last week was a real missed opportunity though. There’s obviously still plenty of work to do as we were 1-14 to 1-7 up midway through the second half and let them come back into it apparently.
bandage - do you really think anyone cares about wexford gaa??
lyng quite good todya excellent ball through for flynns goal in the first half and some other good scores.
i thought waters had his best game yet but that doesnt say a lot, good game form david murphy, excellent distribution.
masterson at faulkt for the goal, whatever the fuck he was doing with that short kick out, other positives, thought joey wadding was good again and naughter also did alright.
how we nearly lost this game I dont know. Mac was obviously getting texts anyway as he sums up pretty much what was going on. Started off slowly, and even tho Offaly where on top, they missed some unbelievable chances. McManus kicked wide running through on goal from the 14. he went for a point and didnt even hit the netting behind the goal. Summe dup his contribution. Niall McNamee was virtually anonymous too all day, other than when Masterson klicked the ball to him to set up their second goal.
Flynn played well, and kicked a decent point, before Lyng played a delightful lobbed pass over the defence which put him clean through and he placed it low into the corner with his left. Good finish. But not putting our mark ont he game cost us, and for some reason, Colm Morris tried leave a ball go out for a 45 instead of dealing with it, ball was flicked accross the goal and toe poked into the top corner. Silly goal to concede. Lyng was causing problems for them, and he nearly set up a goal, Paddy Byrne in front of goal should have hti it first time, but he picked it up, and tokk a step or 2 to the side and was blocked. Brosnan was very quiet too, made some runs but didnt get enough ball.
We were up by 2 at half time, and resumed the seconod half well. They did fook all, were fairly useless in fairnress to them. Ryan was getting dogs abuse from the crowd around me to change the team. Collie Byrne, for as much as he runs around and looks like he is doing something, just doesnt cut it. He had a better second half, but like Waters and what the count says above, it doesnt say much either. Lyng kicked a great point in the second half too, aas he hit it, there was groans from the crowd, but the ball kept rising and curling towards goal and went over. Bradley was on for Byrne, and was denied a blatnet penalty. He flicked the ball away fromt he keeper who took him out of it, but ref waved play on.
But how we nearly managed to lose is unreal. 7 points up, going into the last 5 mins. Masterson tried kick a short kick out, straight to McNamee who set up the goal. Then Malone gave away a harsh enough free. They got another point from play, and then in injury time, a high dropping ball going wide, and Masterson sticks up the 2 fists and drives it out behind him. A shit worked 45 from Offaly ended up on our end line with 3 of our lads going for the ball, falling over each otehr and picking it off the ground. Free from the 14 was the last kick of the game which left one in it.
Wadding did have decent game alright, and was one of the better backs. Walsh looked in bother with a nippy full forward. Midfield was non existant. Flynn looked sharp enough, whilst Red wasted a lot of ball, between stupid wides and losing posession. Lyng was very good, but I felt Naughter and Padyd Byrne didnt really take their oppertunity to shine. Kinda shyed away from play a lot. Naughter started getting into it in the latter part of the second half alright tho. Substitiutions didnt come on until near the end, os had no impact. Roche wasnt one of them, nor Banville.
A win, and not an impressive one, and should have been more convincing. But its still an experimental enough side. That midfield wouldnt do much for you, so to win with them starting is a good sign.
Now that its officialy announced that Fitzy is retired, its a sad sad day for Wexford GAA.
Sad news. Some great memories. Think my favourite was his penalty against Limerick in 2001.
