Dunne didnt give a fuck what the players thought, where did that get him.
You need to foster belief in a team with a fragile psyche, not giving a fuck about players wont do that. You need to cultivate a sense of solidarity and have everyone buy in to the goal at the end, this has to be spelled out to the everyone wishing to even attempt a trial for Wexford.
Perhaps they are coming back to soon or rehab isnāt A1 but something is wrong. Also the County Board could save money using the Whitfield in Waterford instead of Santry Sports imho.
Nicky English with JJ.Itās a no brainer.Nicky knows alot of the lads from UCD and is based in Sandymount. JJ knows all the auld bolloxology that goes on with the clubs in Wexford.
The on thing i dont think the Co. baord is cut cost in relation to player welfare.
There is no such thing as a GAA pension, long after these lads have left the limelight they still have to deal with the injuries that accrued during their playing years and the Co. board couldnāt give a fiddlers fuck for them
Whitfield has some orthpaedic lads and if they suit then thatās fine but SSC is a top end facility with a top class roster of highly experienced sports practitioners.
Thereās fuck all difference between the cost of an MRI in the various places anyway. Blackrock only charge ā¬230 for an MRI and most health insurance policies cover them.
I donāt see how JJ and Nickey is a no brainer. In fact Iād never have put the two of them together. And the fact that Nickey has never gone back to Tipp would indicate that he has no interest in managing at that level again.
Iād love it, love if JJ was the man to take it on but I donāt think heās the right fit for it.
I think what @croppy_boy was saying in his belligerent way, is that we need someone who will command respect. Does Liam Dunne, who clearly did not command respect, kill off the thoughts of another 1996 team member as the coach? Who among them would be available?
I like @count_of_monte_crist 's idea of a manager and coach. But in terms of inter county hurling, either seem thin on the ground, we will more than likely have to go with someone unproven.
I dont know why a member of the 96 team would be to the forefront as a candidate for the position. It should be the best manager/coach for the job. We have had Dunne, Dempsey, Scallan, Byrne, Cushe, Storey, Guiney, Geroge O Connor over underage county development in some form or another, and only really O Connor can say he has any bit of success, albeit he is the only one who hasnt actually been over a team. Scallan yesterday showing enough major flaws to say he wont be one to bring up the standards in years to come.
A managers respect should come from the way they train, manage and deal with players. Their past should only be a fraction of the reason they earn respect. Dunne, IMO, would have been one of the best managers on playing reputation. But it doesnt guarantee respect. I dont think players didnt respect him, I think in a lot of cases it was the other way around if there was an issue.
Personally, I think itāll be either retain Dunne or go with JJ Doyle and/or Frank Flannery.
I was kind of saying it in the hope that we were done with '96 as it seems to be the default position.
I donāt think there seems to be too much in the way of experienced inter county managers plying their trade at the moment, so maybe itās time to give a chance to someone forward thinking, young, without necessarily an inter county track record. The biggest thing would be to give them the requisite support, but itās the Wexford county board weāre talking about.
well they did appoint a young forward thinking football manager over some more experienced candidates, so itās not beyond them. Albeit that gamble hasnt really paid off. The support is being given to intercounty managers as best as can be, sure the club games get fucked over on a whim for the I/C managers. Itāll be a new Co board set up, so who knows will be in charge and what theyāll do. Regardless of anything else, Deveroux at least brought some stability to the whole set up.
