Wexford GAA 2020

Senior Quarter-Final pairings:
St Martins v Glynn-Barntown
Gorey v Ferns
Oulart v St Annes
Faythe Harriers v Shels

Glynn have caused St Martins problems in the past but you’d still expect St Martins to pull through by 4 or 5. Maybe a 1-21 to 1-16 scoreline.

Ferns knocked Gorey out last year with a comprehensive victory. Close game but I’d go Gorey by 2-16 to 1-17.

Oulart v St Annes should be a cracker. Oulart not the side of old but will fancy their chances of reaching a semi-final. I’ll give a hesitant vote to St Annes by 2-17 to 1-19.

Harriers are an improving team and the defensive set up should make life difficult for Shels. Shels to win 1-15 to 1-13 maybe.

Glynn-Barntown on the brink of dumping championship favourites St Martin’s out.

0-20 to 1-11 approaching injury time.

It finished 0-20 to 1-11. That’s quite a shock.

Very open championship now. Wexford is BOX OFFICE.

I can see Ferns beating Gorey and Harriers beating whoever they are playing.

That’s the one. The Gorey, Rapps, Shels group was fairly flimsy in my opinion. Ferns should still have plenty more to give as well.

I’d have nearly said that was the group of death before Liam Ryan’s injury. Ferns gave Gorey a good trimming last year alright.

Take care of Conor Mac and they’ve very little. Jack Cullen is maturing into a very fine hurler and would be well worth his place in the county panel if he keeps progressing.

It’s by no means a vintage Rapps team and even without Ryan, they nearly had Gorey beaten only for that pelanty in the last minute. Shels just seemed to collapse last week against Gorey having been well on top.

Ferns and Harriers both have a bit of class in their teams and plenty of lads who rarely go missing when they’re needed.

Still Rapps won minor titles in 2012 and 2013. Cathal Dunbar a threat too for Gorey. St Annes v Oulart is the tie of the round in my opinion, should be a cracker.

I was hugely unimpressed by both in the group stage. And that says as much about Fethard too by the way. A team who retain composure and pick off points will handle the Harriers, just can’t get sucked into a ruck and pack game, keep it moving and take scores. Ferns too have zero pace at the back. Any bit of movement inside and running at them and they foul every time. The Anne’s would destroy ferns the way both sides play. Both Harriers and Ferns are capable, but neither are great. Long term, the future for Harriers looks good. Nice young players and with the defensive structure in place, they should be able to develop further and be able to attack better.

With the Martin’s gone tho, it really opens it up.

Had a lovely accum put together and threw martins in based on their display v Oulart when I taught they were impressive. Prob should have looked for a reference here maybe?

Doubt anyone here would have backed against them. Glynn aren’t a fancied team

The Rapps have been doing well at minor and underage level for as long as I can remember and always manage to never translate it to senior success. Must be a townie thing.

I’d say a hape a glynn lads backed themselves. They’re going well. Unlucky to lose the first day.

Yeah I think that group now looks like it was probably the strongest, no team winning by more than a score, very tight. I thought rathnure would have got out of it to be honest.

I wouldn’t say that obviously. Weak enough group. Barntown best by a long way etc. etc. Gorey now the team to beat.
