Wexford GAA 2024

What a waste of time.

3 groups of 4 is the way forward imo.

But how many teams go through to the quarter-final then from each group? It wouldn’t work out evenly would it? Senior should stay at 12 too as 16 was too many back in the day so no easy structural fix.

Rathnure’s winning margin average so far is 17 points :flushed:

They gave Bunclody some scutching this evening. Things usually even themselves out a bit in the knockout stages though. Oulart were dishing out similar hammerings two years before Taghmon were semi-competitive against them in the final.

As you said, 28 years ago today, 1 September 1996 since Wexford last won an All Ireland Senior Hurling. That was also the 28th anniversary of the previous All Ireland win on 1 September 1968.

I wonder when Wexford will next win an All Ireland, if ever.

Shels, St Martins, St Anne’s and Naomh Éanna straight through to the quarter-finals. The preliminary quarter-finals are:

Ferns v Oylgate. Repeat of the quarter-final from last year but I’d fancy Ferns to avenge that defeat this year.

Glynn Barntown v Harriers where I’d strongly fancy the Harriers to win.

Oulart v Rapps is a tasty one as it doubles as a relegation semi-final. Rapps missing a large number of players like Lenny Connolly, Ryan Mahon, Ricky Fox etc. If they get some of those back in time then they get a tentative vote to edge it.

Crossabeg-Ballymurn v Cloughbawn: Cloughbawn should be favourites in this relegation semi-final on current form but maybe Crossabeg are timing their run this year. Still possible to win the championship for the 4 teams in relegation as Ballyhale showcased to good effect in Kilkenny in 2019. I feel the 3rd/4th placed teams are being screwed over a slight bit with this system. If there was a year with a hapless 6th placed team in one group then you’d be better off finishing 5th than 4th in the other group.

5 weeks until the quarter finals is crazy stuff

I’m lucky enough to have the club championship season ticket but the CB are taking the piss with admission prices this weekend €16 for a preliminary QF double header seems a bit mad.

Harriers 1-17 to 0-4 up on glynn barntown at half time! Are glynn gone that bad?

I paid €18 in Waterford for a relegation semi /county quarter double header.

Davy and Bomber obviously still owed a few quid.

5-25 to 1-7 it finished. A fair beating. Chinner probably scored about 2-14 of that.

Just came here to post the score. A serious statement of intent from JJ Doyle’s men. Doesn’t say much for Oulart and Crossabeg that Glynn-Barntown beat both of them in the round robin.

Fethard overcame a dangerous enough banana skin against Craanford in the intermediate tonight.

Crazy scoreline though, especially between a 3rd and 4th place team. If they played again next week there might be only a few points in it either way.

1-13 according to the Harriers social media 0-4 from play, I’d say Harriers were 4-5 point favourites pre game but nobody would have predicted a scoreline like that.

When the going gets tough Glynn get gone

Ferns edge out Oylegate after extra-time. Eoin Murphy with the pivotal goal in the extra 20. Ian Byrne very consistent on the frees which saved the victors in normal time. It had looked like Oylegate were going to sneak it after Shane Reck burst through clear on goal and teed up his cousin Jamie for a goal to make it 1-14 to 0-15 late on.

Askamore were comfortable winners against Blackwater in the Intermediate prelim. Tara Rocks ousted Horeswood in the other game. A quarter-final berth for them in both codes after a shaky start to the championship.

Davidstown came a cropper against Shels second string in the Intermediate A. Clongeen beat Ballygarret comfortably enough, as did Liam Mellows against Rosslare. Adamstown edged what looked like a thriller against Oulart’s second string.

In the junior the Shamrocks beat Marshalstown by 2 points (5-15 to 4-16) in the battle of two former senior regulars from the late 00’s.

Tara rocks beat Gusserane. Horeswood play taghmon tomorrow and could likely make it 4 from 4 for that group beating the other one, and all doing it reasonably comfortably too. Not sure how the quarters go if you have 6 from one group and 2 from the other, so how repeat pairings will work there.
