so the UFC rings a fighter directly to ask them what song they play, and they never discuss it again with the person or their agents/media team before the actual night of the fight. And they just happened to ring someone who was quick enough to retort that they were the UFC fighter and didnt just say wrong number like pretty much every person would if someone rang their phone in error.

The UFC was far from a slick organisation 10+ years ago. It’s not that unfathomable.
He was also his own agent which lead to him signing some woeful deals. Not being on top of entrance music, as hot a topic it is for us here in TFK, doesn’t surprise
He was also on a podcast saying this happened few times but music want noticeably bad until the MC hammer one. Until then he thought that entrance music was simply given by UFC. See point re: own agent

He probably should have twigged when he came out to Rihanna’s “We Found Love” at UFC 164
and as per that article there, he says he chose the Rhianna song. I’m just a cynical bastard. Its a funny story, but sounds like a load of bollix to me.
A UFC fighter recently asked for the Halo theme (from the game, I assume) but got Halo by Beyoncé instead
