I must say this is the quietest I’ve ever seen this forum. After all the talk of how amazing it was to have so many people online on Sunday I feel let down now!
we are all on the new forum -was wondering where you were
just follow the link on the front page
Mmm. considering I do check that sporadically and I see no new posts up on it I’m pretty sure there’s not much happening on it.
It’s a bit dead at the moment alright. Not much to talk about and blocked from plenty of people in work.
Flano out of interest - which forum type do you prefer? Not 100% sure about whether this conversion is necessary so just wondering if you’ve noticed any differences from a quick glance at the other board.
The amount of publicity my Setanta exlusive gave could only last so long.
My view on the forums is slightly biased purely due to the fact I’m so familiar with the existing one.
Something which occured to my though is if you were able to allow different themes, eg, simple white background and black text, it would be very handy for work as it wouldnt be immediately apparent to someone(Manager) glancing at your screen to notice you’re up to something not work related.
The “Favourite” feature for threads on the new forum is quite a good idea and also the ability to minimize certain boxes on the main page is quite handy.
Im not aware of the potential of the new forum and what can be added though. I remember you said that there would be more integration between the forum and message board, what exactly are the advantages of this?
Thanks Flano.
I’m trying to figure out which type of forum is worth developing more so that the end result is a best of both worlds.
The minimisation thing is handy - as is the favourites which I hadn’t noticed.
The main features missing from that forum at the moment are embedding videos (which is easy enough to do, just haven’t done it) and adding a PM function which should hopefully be ok.
Other than that the idea that the main conveniences of it are:
- it runs on the same software as the main part of the site
- it should be easier to design the look of the forum to match the look of the main parts of the site
- the integration idea was that articles on the main part of the site would appear on the forum and comments from the forum then would appear at the bottom of the articles. It would encourage people to write articles if they’re appealing to both audiences. I’ve sort of achieved that effect at the moment with the new comment feature on the main page of the site but it’s not perfect.
- the idea of having customisable colours is something I’m trying to implement but it’s not simple. The main problem is that there are two parts to the site as I’ve said: the main site with articles, prediction league etc. and the forum. Both of these work independently of eachother and therefore they both need to be designed independently to look like one another.
In theory this should be easier to achieve with the new forum so it’s easier to have multiple options. At the moment if you changed the layout of the forum to plain white - you’d still have the black and green on the top and around the side so it would be pointless.
It might be best to come up with a couple of totally new designs that allow options though.
I knew the different themes for the forum wouldnt work with the existing one since you told me about the two different servers. The recommended idea for different themes was for the new forum really.
I cant remember if you answered this last time but is HTML supported in posting threads?
It depends what you mean by HTML - do you mean anything you want under HTML or do you just mean HTML used for formatting?
What I mean is can HTML be used for actual posting of messages? Like in the way we currently use bbcode.
As far as I know basic html formatting code like:
<b>, <u>, <i>, <s>, , <ins>, <del>
]
<img src="" alt="" />
, <hr />
could be used. Not 100% sure. I can turn that on for this forum.
Is that what you mean or are you looking at something more complicated?

Thats pretty much what I was talking about, it is available isnt it?
It’s available on here anyway, I’ll turn it on now. Not sure about the new board but I’m sure it can be done.
On the new forum when you go into edit your profile it says HTML code is disabled. Maybe its only for the signature but this is what has led me to believe it is available on the new forum.
Ah ok - I’ll have a look at it this evening. It’s turned on here now anyway.
