It was. They expected the players to keep coming naturally, and the day of that is gone. TBF they overhauled OCP and built FF, so they concentrated on capital development for a decade or so.
Must be great to have the likes of Lowry all the same.

From just passing it on the road that Faithful Fields complex looks a right set-up. They must have five or six pitches and Iâd imagine four dressing rooms inside the building.
County boards are being run like businesses now and correctly so.
The Offaly story was down to one offs .
A freakish collection of good hurlers for 20 years around a tiny area .
The football was helped by Bord Na Mona keeping people there .
That said their hurlers should be in tier 1 .
Was Eugene McGee first âoutside managerâ to win an All ireland
Wonder would Offaly have won an All Ireland without him
They won 2 All Irelandâs in the 70s without him.
They had a serious bunch of players back then.
Dublin GAA would kill to have facilities like that
They had a great bunch of players in the 70s too. Martin Furlong, Willie Bryan, Kevin Kilmurray and Tony McTague. They used to say that they didnât bring in the square ball rule to protect goalkeepers, they brought it in to protect forwards from Martin Furlong.
Diarmaid Healy from Kilkenny managed the hurlers when they won the 81 AI.
Can build 20 perfect pitches. The days of Offaly been competitive at the top level are over. Dont have the pick.
Irony alert
Its a money game not a numbers game.
But when you have the money, you can generate the numbers.
Brilliant!
I watched the 1982 final again a few years back. Serious standard - points been kicked from all angles.
In the pouring rain. I was on the Hill that day had a great view of Seamus Darby pushing Tommy Doyle in the back.
Nudged
This decline of Bord Na Mona being linked to the decline of Offaly GAA is one of the great narratives of the GAA. Iâd say itâs complete bollox
Darbyâs catch that day on the turn coming over his head is superb, push/nudge or not.
Was all down to the quality and delivery of the ball coming in.
DâOffaly lads were well used to torrential rain and that gave Darby the edge.
Liam Connor with the âhigh, lobbing ballâ iirc. He died a young man after, barely 50 Iâd say.
That was part of it but Darby still had to catch it .
