Apparently, under the letter of the law - but you obviously didn’t read the link in which the current US president called for the death penalty for people involved in Wikileaks, a direct reference to specific thing the Yanks want to prosecute Assange for.
That doesn’t have to mean legal execution, Trump models himself on Putin remember. And even if you take that threat in 2010 as merely barstool bluster, it still puts at least a 0.1% doubt in one’s mind as to what could happen to Assange in custody, doesn’t it?
I have little time by the way for Assange who has been an obvious stooge for Trump and Putin over the last few years. Sweden is where he should be standing trial.
For Trump this is about clamping down on general press freedom. It’s likely also a ruse to conceal as much of the Mueller report as possible under the excuse of “ongoing investigation, must redact”.
Trump had zero ability to influence the sentence Assange might have received in 2010, has zero ability to influence it now, and will have zero ability (in or out of office) to influence it if and when Assange ever stands trial in the US. Your paranoia about all things Trump is bordering on psychotic.
