For me Van Gaal has made the Dutch better than the sum of their parts. They will have a proper gameplan and look to exploit weaknesses in other sides and are fairly fluid and flexible. I simply haven’t seen anything from Argentina to say that Sabella is anywhere as good a manager and aside from Messi’s brilliance Argentina have very much flattered to deceive and I think they will struggle without Di Maria’s industry.
Holland to go through with a late winner
Hard to know how much of their success has been down to Van Gaal finding a formula to capitalise on Robben’s excellence and how much has been down to just Robben’s excellence trumping everything else. They’ve been very predictable with lots of their passing. Obviously you have to consider the limitations of his players but there are some more creative guys and some more polished defenders that he opted against bringing into the squad.
If Argentina win tonight, it will mean that Argentina v Germany/West Germany will move to the top of the list of most meetings in a world cup final, with 3.
If the Dutch win, then Germany/West Germany v Netherlands will join Brazil v Italy and Germany/West Germany v Argentina on 2.
Yay.
