Wwe Suspends 10 Wrestlers

IN the most decisive move of its kind in the history of the wrestling business, the WWE have suspended many of their biggest name wrestlers for breaking drug rules.
The action came after the 10 men allegedly including former world champions Edge, King Booker and Randy Orton as well as Mr Kennedy and ECW champ John Morrison were identified as clients of Signature Pharmacy in Orlando.

That company was busted by cops in February for the distribution of steroids and other prescription drugs to clients who had not been examined by a doctor.

It has now been established that their patient list included the 10 grapplers.

Chris Benoit - who murdered his wife and seven-year-old son - was also a client, as was the late Eddie Guerrero who died from heart failure linked to years of drug abuse.

Vince McMahons company released an official statement saying: Based on independent information received from investigators from the Albany County, NY D.A.s office, WWE has today, under the penalty provisions of its Wellness Policy, issued suspension notices to 10 of its performers for violations.

It has been WWEs practice not to release the names of those who have been suspended, but notice has been sent to all WWE performers that names of anyone who is suspended under the Wellness Policy as of November 1 will be made public.

Despite the companys unwillingness to reveal names at this point they have been leaked to the American press.

The New York Daily News has speculated that the ten are Randy Orton, Charlie Haas, Edge, King Booker, Shane Helms, Santino Marella, John Morrison, William Regal, Ken Kennedy and Chavo Guerrero.

Ironically many have recently gone on the record to claim both they and the wrestling business were clean of steroids.

Just last week, when we questioned him over the large number of drug-related deaths in the industry, Kennedy told The Sun: I’d say we did have problems, because I honestly don’t think we have those problems any more.

And if you look at the list of guys that have passed away, they are all from that era where there was a rock star type of party atmosphere in the business.

Kennedy then claimed he had taken steroids but stopped when the WWE instituted their Wellness Policy and testing programme after the death of Eddie in November 2005.

He added: I stopped taking them and I had the biggest push of my life.

I didn’t take any steroids and that’s the thing, nowadays, in our business, you don’t have to take that stuff in order to get a push.

The Wrestling Observers Dave Meltzer took a sceptical tone over the WWEs actions, noting: Congress will be holding hearings about performance enhancing drug usage in pro wrestling at the end of the month.

That likely at least partially explains the rash of suspensions, because the government likely had knowledge of who was on the list and if WWE didn’t discipline those people, they’d get raked over the coals publicly for it.

When you look at the list of the people that have been suspended maybe Booker the only shock. Least shocking was Randy Orton or John Morrison(Nitro). Wwe are really cleaning their act up. It will be interesting to see how this will affect current feuds especially Randy Orton. I though he might take the title off Cena but not now.

When Cena is revealed as one of the steroid junkies he’ll have no choice but to take the title off him. Triple H must have been on them but since his return he is looking a lot more slimline.

Scott Steiner is lucky he’s not around, he’s taken more juice than anyone ever.

Can one of you lads provide a Summerslam update?

I’d assume Cena is on them alright. I’m sure HHH would get whatever protection necessary from McMahon.

I wonder if this is a case of a token gesture prior to the congressional hearings alright.

I didn’t watch Summerslam live as I was wrecked but I ordered it and watched it on Tuesday night. I haven’t had a chance to post on it what with being at the Celtic game but give me a while and I’ll do up something.

It was off the hook, off the chain though.

Quite busy so this will be brief and I’m pretty sure these fights are in the running order of how things transpired on the night.

Kane beat Finlay despite interference from Hornswaggle - he finished him off with a chokeslam before getting the pin.

Umaga retained his intercontinental title by beating Mr Kennedy and Carlito in a triple threat match. He gave Carlito a Samoan drop before pinning Kennedy after delivering the Samoan Spike to his throat. He’s becoming a fan favourite and I think he’s gradually turning ‘face’.

Next up was the best match of the night as far as I was concerned. Rey Mysterio made his long awaited comeback against one time friend and now fearsome foe, Chavo Guerrero. This bout had some incredible high flying along with excellent mat wrestling. Rey got the victory after connecting with the ‘619’ and then in the same movement launching up onto the middle of the top ropes and from there splashing down on Chavo. Truly awesome stuff from Rey Rey and superb to have him back.

The Diva Battle Royal followed this match and is always an event I like to watch with no trousers on. It was quality with Maria, Tori and Michelle McCool all in it with the winner getting a shot at Candice Michelle’s title at Unforgiven. Some new beast of a bird won it in the end - can’t remember her name.

Then MVP called out Matt Hardy to engage in a beer drinking competition. They’ve been having a series of duels in recent weeks and two weeeks ago on Smackdown they were to have a boxing match, only for MVP to get Evander Holyfield to fight on his behalf (he ended up decking both of them). So Hardy got one back by springing ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin out to represent him. He downed about 10 cans of beer in 2 minutes and then delivered a ‘stunner’ to MVP. Quality stuff.

Then Triple H made his return after an 8 month injury absence before a frenzied crowd. He comprehensively beat King Booker, finishing him off with ‘the pedigree’. The crowd went nuts for him and he soaked it up in the ring for a good 5 minutes afterwards. Great to have him back - ‘it’s all about the game - and how you play it’.

John Morrisson retained the ECW title by pinning CM Punk using the ropes for leverage. This was a rubbish fight and these two have had a series of crap fights lately. Enough already.

The Batista/Khali fight was also a disappointment. Khali was on top before Batista managed to give him a spine buster. Then Khali brought a steel chair into the ring and was disqualified. Batista ducked under the attempted strike with the chair and speared Khali, picked up the chair and battered Khali with it then. The Undertaker is back from injury at Unforgiven in 3 weeks and is taking on Mark Henry. I wouldn’t be surprised if he disposed of Henry there and then won the title from Khali at Survivor Series.

John Cena and Randy Orton brought the curtain down on the show with an instant classic. It was golden stuff. Each of them delivered their full array of moves and holds on the other before Cena eventually prevailed with an ‘FU’. I could eulogise about this fight for pages but I won’t. All I need to say it that it was off the hook, off the chain. But not as good as the Rey Mysterio match. I love Rey.

Summerslam - most definitely the biggest party of the summer.
