Lindsey Vonn planning on doing a Henry Shefflin, 2010 All Ireland Hurling Final
Vonn ruptures ACL but targets stunning Games appearance
Lindsey Vonn revealed that despite having “completely ruptured” her ACL she still plans to compete in this month’s Winter Olympics.
The 41-year-old American was airlifted to hospital after crashing in a downhill race in Switzerland on Friday, putting her participation at this month’s Games in Milan and Cortina at risk.
However, at a press conference on Tuesday, skier Vonn revealed that despite the extent of her injury, she is “confident” she can compete at the Olympics.
“So last Friday in Crans-Montana, in the last World Cup, I completely ruptured my ACL,” Vonn told reporters.
"I also have bone bruising, which is a common injury when you tear your ACL, plus meniscal damage which we’re not sure if that was pre-existing or from the crash.
"But we have been doing extensive therapy, consulting with doctors, been in the gym and today I went skiing.
“Considering how my knee feels, it feels stable, I feel strong, my knee is not swollen and with the help of a knee brace I am confident that I can compete on Sunday.”
Vonn was crowned Olympic downhill champion at Vancouver 2010 and returned to the sport in December 2024 having initially retired in 2019 and has had a partial knee replacement.
The women’s downhill event takes place on Sunday at the Tofane Alpine Skiing Centre.
She added: "I’m not letting this slip through my fingers, I’m going to do it. End of story.
"I’m not letting myself go down that path. I’m not crying, my head is high, I’m standing tall and I’m going to do my best.
“Whatever the result is that’s what it is, but you can never say I didn’t try.”
What’s the narrative in the ice hockey this time?
Lindsey Vonn tore her ACL this week, but is still planning on competing in the Downhill on Sunday.

No Eve Muirhead on the ice this time. ![]()
But the 2022 gold medal winning skip has graduated to being Team GB’s Chef de Mission for this Olympics, the Paul McGinley of British winter sport, except that she herself actually was a proper sportsperson.
Eve’s entire Olympic career has been lovingly chronicled on this forum.
If doesn’t say if this applies to male or female athletes.

There’s a strong hint in the second paragraph.
Hey this is 2026 kid…
I was going to spam the six nations thread but decided to post here instead.
Looks like the Russians are favourites for the women’s curling.
Like all opening ceremonies this is a load of wank
They’re not actually going to tear down that magnificent cathedral?
Tremendous opening ceremony here
It’s falling apart by all accounts. No doubt due to the fact that they were trying to get a new stadium. I didn’t realise it had been built onto so much, they say that’s why it has to be pulled down rather than renovated.
The frogs struggling to keep it between the ditches coming down the hill.
That scenery is phenomenal. What a setting.
The Swiss are purring
They have gone down to Stelvio and are skiing all over the cunts.
I expect this to be a three way battle between Pirmin Zurbriggen, Alberto Tomba and Marc Giardelli.
The flamboyant Franck Piccard of France could be a decent outside bet but Austria’s Patrick Ortlieb has posted a good time with the first run of the competition and that will be hard bet.
