Would Shiner Ahearne not have been better than Brenner? Johnny was a great u21 but I don’t remember him doing much at senior?
Could have Guiney in for Conran but Conran was a classier hurler (IMHO) and won an All Star when Wexford hurling was at a very low ebb.
My auld lad always says Pat Hartigan was the GOAT.
Yeah possibly, I don’t remember much of Shiner from his prime though, but I always thought Johnny was one of the finest midfielders I saw, on his day. However, he never really fulfilled his potential.
Calling for more time on the goalkeeper
Johnny Mac (tight & good on the ball)
Paddy Ivess (He just dominated forwards)
Mark O’Riordan (pace)
Paudie Browne (Forgiving him the wasted chances in 09 munster final)

Shiner was excellent on poor enough Waterford teams in the late 80’s and early 90’s. He got a few All Star replacements I think. Your roght about Brenner not fulfilling his potential
A great man for goals
He was very highly regarded and a perennial All-Star in the early years, but he was before my time and I have no real memory of him playing.
Cregan and McKenna lasted longer and I have vivid childhood memories of the buzz that went around a stadium when Big Joe went up to catch one out of the air and bury it in the net with that unusual style of his where he used drop the ball almost to the ground before striking it.
Johnny Brenner was a jibber.
Shiner? Are you having a laugh?

Mine always said if Cregan had played for Cork at the time he’d be recognised as being up there with Christy Ring and DJ Carey. Always said he was the best he ever saw.

A depressing exercise. So many players with potential who teased us for a couple of years and fell away.
So I have went for Dublin Players from the late 80’s till today.

He was better than Johnny Brenner anyway. However I won’t argue with you as judging by your team you know a bot more about Waterford Hurling than I do.
Would have always been in the corner for Clare. A different breed altogether
Keith Galvin? He wouldn’t make the St Sylvester’s best ever team.
Dave Foran was a bit of a plodder too. Ciaran Whelan was miles better
Anyone that wasn’t frightened by their own shadow would have been better than Johnny Brenner.
