Weren’t the rest of the Seahorses buskers from Grimsby or something? They certainly sounded like it anyway. One of the worst bands ever. The singer had a fucking useless voice, a bit like the singer from Embrace. Couldn’t sing at all.
Edit: Fitzy I didn’t get the Pixies for the simple fact that I just never thought they were that great. Good, but not great.
Saw the seahorses live once and they were pure shit apart from the one song. Crowd went mad went Squire went for his solo, though.
Pixies are class. Always wanted to see them live and got to twice. Didn’t disappoint in the phoenix park. Then saw them at landsdowne and then they were animal for a few songs before whoever organised the gig turned the sound down. Cuntz. If ever there was a band to listen to loud it’s the pixies.
Made of Stone is a fantastic song, This is the One is immense. Bye Bye Badman is funny because of what the song is about. Don’t Stop could be pointed at as the weakest of the songs but that was just something they liked to experiment with. Another case being I Am Without Shoes.
The first Roses album is indeed a tremendous effort - the opener and the closer are the best tracks for me and in between there are many gems. I wouldn’t have it in my top ten but kudos to them for a mighty fine effort.
Pixies are the first band I ever really ‘heard’ and to this day they are probably my favourite band along with REM and The Smiths. Can remember Surfer Rosa being played in my house non stop and it scared the shite out of me. Just shy on 20 years later it still does!
Listen my child you say to me
I am the voice of your history
Be not afraid - come follow me
Answer my call and Ill set you free
I am the voice in the wind and the pouring rain
I am the voice of your hunger and pain
I am the voice that always is calling you
I am the voice and I will remain
I am the voice in the fields when the Summers gone
The dance of the leaves when the Autum winds blow
Never di I sleep throughout all the cold Winter long
I am the force that in Springtime will grow
I am the voice of the past that will always be
Filled with my sorrows and blood in my fields
I am the voice of the future
Bring me your peace, bring me your peace
And my wounds they will heal
I am the voice in the wind and the pouring rain
I am the voice of your hunger and pain
I am the voice that always is calling you
I am the voice and I will remain
I am the voice in the wind and the pouring rain
I am the voice of your hunger and pain
I am the voice that always is calling you
I am the voice and I will remain
I am the resurrection and fools gold are close to being two of the greatest tunes of all time and they are on the same album. I remember getting into them around 91, and was waiting for years for the Second coming. A friend of mine in college copied it for me when her brother the day after it was released. HEr brother had a job and he bought it the day it came out.

Fools gold ain’t on it dude (unless its an import you’re talking about). But yeah its a class song alright.
Again showing the time I’m talking about and my age- I got The Stone Roses as a copy of a cassette from a friend of mine in secondary school. Must have been an import that he copied for me- think it was the last track- not sure though
I’ve no idea how I first got into them properly. I do remember as a kid being in one of my mates gaffs and his older brother having a poster of a lemon on his wall. It was only years later when I got into music seriously that I copped what that was all those years previously.
Anybody have a copy of Garage Flower which was supposed to be the original first album?
Probably for the best that never got released because they would have folded if that had been their debut.
The Complete Stone Roses is probably the one to have rather than the album if you want to hear most of their good stuff. Something Burning and One Love ara both classics. Good few others on that compilation well worth listening to. I do think Second Coming was a good album. Begging You and Tightrope are my favourites off that one.
This is my favourite tune, was released around the time of my 18th birthday, brings back some right good times to be fair. First song at my wedding anyways.
Would disagree massively, the “Complete” album has dreadful short versions of a lot of key tracks.
Don’t have much to add to the thread, can remember being very impressed with the Seahorses at Slane, and obviously the Pixies at the Park was a tremendous gig, even if the pigs had just beaten us a couple of hours beforehand
This is the One is my top played on iTunes. 125 plays, second is Regret with 69 plays, that says it all. This is the One is the best song ever.
