2010 Division OneNational Hurling League Thread

Good post, well thought out.

Deise Team:

Clinton Hennessy

Jerome Meagher - Liam Lawlor - Noel Connors
Dec Pendergast - Michael Walsh - James Murray

Richie Foley - Jamie Nagle

Maurice Shanahan - Kevin Moran - Tommy Connors
Shane Walsh - Gary Hurney - Stephen Molumphy

Dubs Team

G Maguire;

N Corcoran, T Brady, O Gough;
S Hiney (capt), R Fallon, M O’Brien;

J McCaffrey, J Boland;

P Kelly, L Rushe, S Durkin;
D Treacy, K Flynn, A McCrabbe.

In fairness hype aside, that dubs team isnt great neither, missing there scorer in chief O’Callaghan. saying that if they cant beat or at least get within a point or two of that Waterford team, they have a lot further to go than they think.

Scorer in chief would surely be McCrabbe followed by Rushe? Dotsy was easily enough blotted out at times last year.

O’Callaghan was there main scorer from play last year in the championship. He scored from play against Antrim (1-3), Wexico (0-2), and Limerick (0-2), and notched a point against the cats leaving him with a final total of 1-8 from play.

McCrabbe was mainly taking and scoring frees all year, but was their second best from play with 1-5, albeit, 1-1 against Antim, and failed to score against Lk and Wexford from play, and Liam Rushe despite causing a bit of hassle in the league being a big awkward fooker, he was pretty shite when it mattered only returning a solitary championship point against Wexico. David Treacy got 3 points against KK and looks the makings of a decent player.

He scored 3 goals against Tipp in Thurles last year and caused serious bother to the full back line.

Tipp need to win this one against an understrength Kilkenny, otherwise they run the risk of turning into Wexford.
I think they will.

Ross O’Carroll is a big loss to Dublin hurling…

Very much so, rememebre he was very very good for them against Wexico and Cork the year before last. Tehy will be banging on about Keaney, who hasnt really played much hurling in the last 5 years, but this lad is a bigger loss.

Win or turn into Wexford?

Three defeats last year to Kilkenny. Another and a little fear might accompany the sight of a Kilkenny jersey to a lot of these Tipp players in future meetings between the two.

Probably won’t happen though.

Aye I realise that, but I felt Dotsy became very peripheral later in the Cship after notching up scores in the early rounds. Rushe looked to be a decent prospect, hes young too so there’s probably some finetuning to be done on him. Should Laois get to Dublin in the cship with a full hand I’d fancy their chances against Dublin but shur we’ll see.

Dubs played 4 championship games last year, Dotsy was there top scorer in 3 of them and had a poor game against the Cats, where he was deplyed in a 2 man full forward line and was marked by two kilkenny players. The previous year he was also there best player against Cork in the qualifers and destroyed Wexico the day of the draw.

Liam Rushe depsite playing well and being a good prospect only manages a solitary point in last years championship which included a match against Antrim where he was held scoreless.

I wouldn’t place that much emphasis on it to be honest with you, it’s a long way to September. KK hockeyed them in Nowlan Park last year but that match had no bearing on the League Final or AI Final. I can’t imagine the league to be a priority of Sheedy’s this year, that said they are expecting 20,000 there on Saturday night and will not want to go down badly in front of a home crowd.
