2011 BDO World Darts Championship

good darts so far

This facist bastard Adams commentating talking about match fitness. Plonker.

I actually didn’t know there were two Wests. Chisnall not looking like he’s up to much, same as last year really.

chizzy in a spot of bother here

good bottle by chizzy here

good comback by chizzy.

Good man Chizzy - Chizzy and Celtic, what a winning Sunday lunchtrime combination

Tony O’Shea is OUT. The Silverback was beaten 3-1 by Ross Smith. The strength in depth of the field has just been demonstrated again. There are no easy games in the BDO World Championship.

Would appreciate updates please, gents. I’m out and about and without darts access. Chizzy must have been in Morecombe in recent weeks.

Young Joey Ten Berge is currently leading young Shaun Griffiths 2-0.

Griffiths’s nickname is “The Miracle” after his extremely difficult birth. Shaun works as a shelf stacker at the Trafford Centre in Manchester and also plays football for his local team Trafford Park. But like a true Mancunian, he follows Manchester City. He’s sponsored by no less a man than John Gwynne, Sky Sports sports entertainment commentator, who is at Lakeside right now cheering him on loudly. But with the score as it is, young Shaun might need another miracle.

Real people, real darts.

griffith’s is a serious talent, not showing it here.

No miracle for the Miracle.

You can put most of that down to nerves and lack of experience of the famous Lakeside stage, as the boys are correctly pointing out here. Colin used a fine metaphor when he said young Shaun “was like a new born lamb” up there.

Wonderful banter here between Colin, Bobby and Joey. Colin really admires Joey’s toned physique.

What do we make of the new commentator Vassos Alexander? Not a fan thus far.

Anybody who takes over from the peerless Tony Green is always going to have an impossible task. I’m willing to give him time.

I’ll take your cue here and vow to do likewise. Colin Murray was shaky enough early on last year, let’s not forget, and look at him now.

I think another key difference between BDO and PDC crowds is that we are always willing to stick with somebody if they are unable to produce their best performances immediately.

As has already been well documented, the famous stage at Lakeside can inspire some and destroy others, especially newcomers. Even Martin Adams took time to find his feet and become comfortable with the pressure of playing at the home of darts. His first round exits in the 1990s show it can affect even the very best.
However in the BDO we pride ourselves on loyalty. Newcomers who are undone by the pressure are always given sympathetic applause and encouragement that they will come back stronger for the experience. They say you have to lose one to win one, and how true that usually is at Lakeside.

As much as this applies to players, it equally applies to presenters and commentators. Broadcasting for the BBC on the most famous darts championship in the World brings huge pressure. Vassos is a case in point. But as you say Bandage, he should look to the example of Colin last year and indeed David Croft some years ago when he started.

He should have no doubt that he’ll be encouraged and mentored by his colleagues and new friends at Lakeside at every opportunity. Because we at the BDO are the antithesis of the cheap, throwaway, instant gratification culture of the PDC. We don’t throw casually people on the scrapheap like the PDC and Sky did to Dave Lanning. We know the value of good people.

I sat through a few sets of “World number 10” Garry Thompson and some German client, my god it was shocking. The BBC are ruining darts in showing this rubbish, we all watch the darts in our house but it became too much and we switched to Wigan and Newcastle, desperate stuff.

Fuck off and die, you fucking cunt.

Why dont you grow up a little and maybe post more pro BDO rubbish on anfearrrua using your alterego Jack Donaghy CE. Preety childish stuff, for all your love of the BDO, you didnt even give a mention to Martin Adams win in the World Masters in November, televised live on the BBC. Some BDO fan allright.
