2011 Rugby World Cup

Christ thats the most pathetic post on rugby I’ve seen in a long time on here  God bless him, KIB man tries though.

Flannery is out of the World Cup. Damien Varley is on his way out.

Flannery out with a calf injury.

How many times has he been out with calf injury at this stage?

That’s a disaster. They really needed Flannerys darts for the big matches. [quote=“myboyblue, post: 589029”]

A shocking injury for a front row player. You’d be imagining this will be the end of him. Shame, but as someone else on here mentioned before, it was always a possibility given the amount of sheer muscle he had to put on to get up to the size required for the standard he reached. Just a shame he didnt get the Lions tour out of it, you’d imagine this could be all he wrote now.

Some rise for Damien Varley all the same.

richardt strauss will be Ireland’s first choice hooker come the 2012 six nations

I fucking hate the naturalisation rule in sport. Fucking hate it.

I agree with this. Found it odd that Cronin agreed to go to Leinster when Strauss was playing so well.

Good rise for Varley but it shows how weak we are in the position more than anything else. He seems to get sin binned a lot as well which is a worry but I assume he’ll just be helping Leo to carry the tackle bags around.

KIB Mans post

For every richardt strauss there’s a ben gissing

Very true, but just something not right about it, in any sport. I dont mind the grandparents rule, there’s something to that, but the naturalisation one that allows cunts like Dylan Hartley, Nathan Hines and Riki Flutey play Intl rugby just turns my stomach to be quite honest.

Dylan Hartley has an English mother. [quote=“myboyblue, post: 589037”]

I stand corrected. Substitute in Manu Tuilagi. And Hartley remains a cunt.

Manu Tuilagi has played all his rugby in England since he was a kid. He may have been born in Samoa but raised in england

hasn’t stopped his brothers lining out for the motherland.

Correct. Anyway they are all at it. Genia is from PNG, Samo is Fijian, the Beast is Zimbabwean and half the NZ squad are south sea islanders by birth. [quote=“chewy louie, post: 589040”]

He was nearly fucked out of the country last year. Get to fuck.

Even more reason to dislike it.

Bad one for Flannery - you’d have to doubt his ability to return properly from this. Obviously a weakness there that he’s finding it hard to rebuild.

Nationalisation rule is shit alright. I have no problem with people who earn residence for non-rugby reasons (which in fairness to NZ is the case with many of their imports who are schooled in the country) but the guys who move to play pro rugby and get caps after a while are ridiculous.

No, absolutely not. I played rugby, so your point is mute.

I dismiss certain posters opinions on GAA because they have a history of talking through their hole, judging teams and players on pub talk/media hype or whatever. One can be a perfectly good judge of the game without having played it, but so often here a few posters say the stupidest things. From reading forums over the years you can see guys who are just lifting other peoples ideaqs, and others just take what the media say as red.

The other point is posters saying things that really show they don’t understand the mechanics of the game or indeed the temperament needed to play, especially at the highest level. Maybe on these occasions i would say something about someone not having played the game, cos its so obvious. GAA is unique, you can learn alot about the highest level (County game) without ever having been that good as we are far closer to the players, and you might even play against them and learn what makes them tick etc. The expectations of supporters sometimes outweigh the realities, and posters here come on and act like goons in a crowd who have no idea what they are on about. For example i was ridiculed for saying that i thought it would be a good thing for Aidan Walsh not to tog out for a game such was his schedule. Now anyone who plays dual sports or has been through a heavy part of a season simply not having to turn up, or not togging out can be a big mental break. Its things like that, that show people up.

See my post above, i was indicating that dropping Earls would be a real runner, i also believe i mentioned after the last game that he was poor. I’ll only defend him or anyone when whats being said is total bollix and based on nothing but a dislike for the players club, county or province, which is par for the course here. Trimble should have started. In an ideal world they’d both be playing.

Are you saying some of the rugby followers on here question Earls/D’Arcy selection on basis of what province they play for kev?if so name names.to be honest I think we all went best team regardless of who they play for at provincial level…I do laugh though when some folk talk about Ulster fellas getting on the team due to quota or whatever and at same time you only need to look at the way Trimble has been treated and not a peep out of them.

Ferris and Best are starting Lar, the quota was already filled.

I took your “and even Earls” comment to be an indication that you thought it was ridiculous people would be talking about dropping him - probably not what you meant so.

I am genuinely at a loss to explain why Earls would start ahead of Trimble though. To balance it out provincially - if Best hadn’t played well against the US and if Flannery wasn’t injured then I’d have been similarly aghast at Best starting ahead of Flannery. The problem for me though isn’t just that Earls has been poor but that Trimble has been excellent. You couldn’t ask anymore of him so it’s very odd to see him make way for someone who hasn’t been playing well.

Plus Earls is probably a better option to have on the bench. I know you can move him around if we need to make changes and switch him wherever but I always think it’s easier to come off the bench and play in a different position than to ask a guy who started on the wing to move somewhere else. No matter how many times he runs backline moves from fullback or centre in training he’ll be thinking all the time it’s largely irrelevant because he’s starting on the wing. If he was on the bench he’d be more inclined to be thinking about the various positions he’s covering. Obviously that’s not an argument in itself for dropping him, and if he was playing well there’d be no need to think about it, but it’s just another disadvantage to what I see as being the wrong call.
