2011 Summer Transfer Window

I see that Liverpool are now being linked with Charlie Adam and Stewart Downing as the next targets. I don’t want either of them to be honest.

Downing is an example of a player than is rated as he is English and is left sided. I’d say you could pick up a much better player on the continent as him for the same price.

I think you’re probably right here. I like Adam as a player but don’t think he can play in a flat four man midfield. I’m thinking Kenny may play with the system a bit and Adam is the type of player that, one, only really fits the 4-2-3-1, and two, needs to be playing week in, week out. So for that reason I’m out.

Downing had a load of gash seasons and one good one. Not good enough.

I think you’re wrong on Henderson though. I wouldn’t consider him a Xabi Alonso type. It looks more to me like Kenny has thought, 10m to bring in 30 year old Parker or 13m (plus Ngog who is useless) to bring in 20 year old Henderson. It actually looks like decent business to me but he’ll need to be nurtured and isn’t the instant answer that Parker would provide. Still though, I like that we are building towards the future.

Radio reports from Barcelona that Cesc is in preliminary talks with them.

Scott Parker - the instant answer. Ha ha ha.

Phil Jones may be having a medical with Liverpool today also but also rumoured to be talking to United. Only seen him a few times but think he’s a good player alright.

Looks like it’s Jones to United for £16m.

Jones, unlike Henderson, does strike me as a player with great potential. Still a very steep price for a player with alot to prove yet.

Agreed Totti. He looks decent but it’s still a premium to be paying for his nationality.

Can someone explain the following to me:

Player A:
25 years old
Top scorer in Championship 2010-2011 with 24 goals.
68 goals in last 4 seasons. 2 in League 1, 2 in Championship.
No real injury or indiscipline worries.
Price £3.5m

Player B:
22 years old
Played in Championship 2009-2010. Scored 17 goals.
31 goals in last 4 seasons. 1 year in Championship, the rest in Premier League with also a loan in Championship.
History of indiscipline and some injury concerns.
Price £35m

Is there that much of a gap in the potential of these players? I know there is a good bit but surely one is not worth 10 times the other?

Carroll isn’t worth 35 million but he had established himself in the EPL, and was playing for England.

Always important to remember the context, mate.

Has the makings of a great player. Very disappointed to lose out to United here.

How did you crack the code?

Clearly he doesn’t actually know who the other player is.

Danny Graham?

Oh look it’s the kid who blurts out the answer when the teacher is asking someone else.

huh?

 I used to be that kid.

Clearly you didn’t know who the other player was.

Me too but I stopped doing it after I left school.
