Right back and centre back but will ultimately end up as a centre back.
Think he only played 9 games for Charlton last season so he’s one for the future rather than someone that will be challenging for a starting place. Exactly what Arsenal need anyway.
DP.
SSN reporting that Ashley Young to Utd is all but a done deal, awaiting his signature.
A good deal for Villa, £20m for a player who has only 1 year left on his contract and hasn’t played particularly well in the last 18months. Young could turn out to be a top top player if he learns to stay on his feet more and works very hard on his delivery.
They bought him for £8m was it? £12m profit from an O’Neill signing for an average player. I always assumed that all O’Neill purchases lost Villa money?
Bought for £9.5m, O’Neill made some good purchases and some bad like most managers.
Ah right. From reading on here I always assumed he made a balls of everything financially related to his tenure with Villa. Seems this might not be the case?
Not everything Mac, no.
Will the signings of Young, De Gea and Jones signal the end of United’s transfer activity? I’d still imagine they will be looking to strengthen the centre of midfield.
Na mate, it’s just that the forum’s very own Villa fan is utterly clueless about his club.
Robbie Keane could be heading to Fulham To link up with Jol again according to some reports.
It’s odd that they haven’t addressed their biggest problem yet. They’ve been linked with Sneijder and Modric which suggests they’re happy with the Carrick/Anderson part of their midfield and want someone for a more advanced role. I presume they’ll be using some of the Sunderland money for a midfielder of some sort but I think they need real class in there, and I’d have thought someone who plays a bit deeper than Sneijder.
Reports in Italy that Sneijder is definitely staying at Inter. Seem to be suggesting that it’s a case of nobody being prepared to match his salary.
Also reports that Real Madrid are trying to swap Kaka for Maicon.
Can see Jones playing as a defensive midfielder in the short term, played there for Blackburn in the early part of last season. Would agree though about the need for a creative midfielder. Would like to see Modric joining, plays deeper than Sneijder which would allow Utd to continue with 4-4-1-1 formation they finished last season with Rooney playing slightly deeper.
Am underwhelmed with the signing of Young but rumours are that Nani is heading to Italy this summer so buying before you sell makes sense I suppose. Don’t think Young will cost £20m btw, more like £12 with add-ons.
£17m with £3m add-ons is the price.
Where did you see that RTT? That’s very expensive IMO. decent player but that’s a steep premium for him being English.
Sneijder’s net salary is reported to be €7m. My estimates make the comparable pre-tax salary in British pounds to be in the region of £235,000 - 240,000 per week. Can’t see anyone except City matching that. And he won’t want to go there.
Being reported across the Villa sites,Tony Morley has also said it is between 15 and 20 million pounds.
 That was not my question.
