2011 Summer Transfer Window

Kevin Nolan to West Ham. Around £4m with all the add ons. 5 year deal. 28 and scored around 12 in the league last yeasr. Will get the captains armband too. Good signing even if the contract is too long!

The list of players being released by EPL clubs was published today. Lots of high profile players - Hargreaves, Woodgate, Sol Campbell, Gera, Andy Reid etc.

Kevin Nolan, have i got the right guy? Newcastle? Thats the madest transfer i have heard of in a while. Why the fuck would he go there?

Or is it another kevin Nolan?

Not a decent player amongst them.

All journeymen, pensioners or injury ravaged.

The pick of them would walk the SPL all the same. Then again you wouldnt need decent players to do that.

Think Reo Coker is the best one there. Decent age, not injury prone, improved a lot last season etc

West Ham released a lot of shite. Upson would do a job for someone though. Wolves could do worse.

Elmander once cost 11m - did alright last season though doesnt look a natural goalscorer. Not bad on a free.

I used go see Fulham a bit and Paintsil was always pretty solid. Not sure what has happened him of late.

Doubt they would walk it, if they are struggling in a backward footballing water like England it’s looking ominous for them.

Why should a price tag paid by ridiculous EPL club dictate his ability? Anyway I believe Galatasaray have snapped Elmander up on a pre contract a couple of weeks ago.

Why would you go to watch Fulham when you support Villa? Surely it’s bad enough following one drab and mediocre English outfit than putting yourself through watching another, especially one you have no attachment to.

A football backwater like England … where does that leave France, Portugal, Russia etc , never mind Scotland. EPL still possibly the best league there is. Hyped to the max yes but Spain could hardly be considered competitive either.

A football supporter going to live football games when living a few miles away from the ground is hardly surprising. I don’t need to hear IRA songs nor watch my own team to enjoy it.

Any chance of Celtic taking a chance on the fat lil fucker?

They gave him the management gig last year

Andy Reid is managing now? I think you’re wrong there KIB Man, he definitely played a game or two for Blackpool last season. Surprised a man with your in depth knowledge of the EPL wouldn’t have known that. I’ll put it down to your relocation.

Liverpool apparently after Cassano.

Also the Man City strikers are attracting interest with Real eyeing up Dzeko and Inter chasing Carlos.

No chance. Hard to know where he’ll go. He wasn’t fit enough to play in a 5 man midfield at a relegated EPL team. Think he believed the hype about his majestic left foot, waste of a career.

Yeah, the majority of the list consists of crocked players and players that disappointed for other reasons with the clubs deciding to let them go. But there’s a few like Elmander who decided themselves to let their contracts run down to pursue other ambitions.

England is a joke of a footballing nation. Their domestic league is bankrolled by foreign investors, it’s repetitive, where the top 6 are the same every year. You have small, nothing clubs like Wigan, Birmingham, Stoke and Villa paying way beyond their needs. The transfer market is fucked up, where a below average player can fetch over 10 million and if some teenager gets a few games for his club he’s instantly worth 20 million. The standard of football is horrible, as is the lack of tactical input by the managers - kick and rush football with little technique embodies your average EPL teamv philosophy.

That’s not to say Scotland is any better, my contempt for Scottish football is even more. However, I see it as a national duty to follow the fortunes of Celtic and they have always had a reputation for playing some beautiful football - Strachan aside.

Celtic played their best foootball of the last 15 years under Strachan !

Who was it who got them past the group stages of the CL? Lenny is trying to play like WGS now which is why they are good to watch. MON was a kick and rush merchant, Strachan wasn’t.

Villa bid 10M for Foster acc to Sun

how many LOI games have you been too

Shut up.

Strachan played some dour, dour football. He populated the team with SPL dross, journeymen like Hartley, Robson, McManus, Caldwell Telfer, Naylor, McDonald etc were all mainstays in his side. He effectively froze out any player who tried to be creative on the pitch - Gravesen, Donati, Crosas were not given a look in when guys like Brown and Hartley couldn’t string 2 yard passes together. The team relied heavily on the goalkeeping heroics of Boruc, the set piece brilliance of Nakamura and the ball carrying skills of McGeady. We won three leagues under Strachan thanks to the huns not bothering to compete in two seasons and the huns blowing a massive league in the midst of a fixture backlog. He created a mess at Celtic, he practically handed Mowbray an impossible job - which he went on to calamitously fuck up. The last 16 was simply down to Nakamura scoring a few invaluable free kicks and Boruc reinacting Superman in goals. We came out of alot of those CL games with something when we should have walked away with a humping, thanks to Boruc. In the last season, when Boruc’s head went all over the shop and Nakamura was in Spain you got to see the real Celtic. Strachan is one of the worst managers in the game today.

O’Neill’s Celtic side played some excellent football and the difference between his side and Strachan’s was that they took the game to teams rather than hoping their keeper keeps them in it and they can hit home a set piece. They played at a high tempo and Thompson and Agathe on the wings were superb outlets. We scored a goal against Lyon in the CL through Chris Sutton where we must have had 50 or 60 passes in the build up to it. It’s a myth that O’Neill’s Celtic side played boring long ball football. Quite the opposite in fact. We always looked to spread the ball wide and were generally very patient in that way.

Sounds to me like Modric has a preference for Utd, though I am biased when reading these rumours.

Modric open to offers

Modric to United is a no brainer, a perfect fit for both Clubs. Just a case of seeing how much Spurs will be willing to cave for. I’m saying 25M.
