This has always been Spurs problem. They just can’t hold a side together. Any time they bring through top class players they leave for one of the supposedly bigger clubs.
Spurs won’t accept anything under 50m for Modric, if Jordan Henderson is going for 20m then 25m for Modric is laughable really. Anyways he is not for sale surely with 5 years left on his contract? He’ll be worth even more to Spurs next summer.
Im not talking about their abilities as manager, you were on giving out about kick and rush epl, MON is the perfect demonstaration of kick and rush EPL rubbish, Hartson and Sutton in the same team sometimes ffs.
I couldn’t believe when I went to my fist Strachan game in Celtic park, ball was rolled out to the full backs by the keeper and start from there. Unheard of under MON.
Spurs wont be able to stop him if he wants to go. Its a whole new world out there. Spurs will take what they can get.
The Henderson deal will push it up a bit now. Maybe €25m and Berbatov or Nani.
Nani? why would ye get rid of the best player? Well one of the best anyway.
He’s clearly on the way out. The fact that he didn’t feature in the run in and was left on the bench for the Champions League Final said enough.
He’s been mentioned as one of the most likely players to leave Utd this summer with Inter Milan being touted as the most likely destination.
Utd are preparing a 35 million bid for Modric…
Modric wants to stay in London and go to Chelsea. Just the player they need imo.
Still can’t get over the affection MON is held in by Glasgow Celtic supporters. Turgid football and never got them anywhere in the Champions League. Momo Sylla, Valgaren, Agathe, Thompson, Hartson, Balde . I’m struggling to think who was left back then. All about power and athletes. Petrov, Larsson and Sutton were the only real good footballers in the team as I remember it. His record
sharing titles with the likes of McLeish isn’t all that in hindsight either. Throw in that he tried to go to Leeds.
Everyone else can’t get over the fact you seem obsessed with MON.
Also on the bolded, did you think of that or was it Ray Wilkins you are copying?

read it today, here educate yourself - http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/jun/17/luka-modric-tottenham-chelsea
McLeish won a couple of titles by pure luck and some blatant cheating by match officials.
Momo Sylla a powerful athlete? I’m concluding you never saw him play. I’m sure you did see Alan Thompson play but perhaps your affection for him overstates his athletic ability. Powerful and athletic didn’t apply to him, tidy player though he was.
Thanks for your worthwhile contribution on the object of your obsession however. In other arguments you’d do well to mention the important contributions of Lennon, Lambert, Moravcik etc though I understand they’d have undermined your point above so were probably best omitted.
Lambert was a very good player, Moravcik decent player too although he was only there for 2 of MON’s five at Parkhead. Lennon was run of the mill. An effective player for MON but little else to him.
The Alan Thompson I remember was far from tidy. A set piece Steve, big and strong. Nothing else to him. He isnt even the best ex Villa reject on the Parkhead bench these days.
Sure there was a bit of discussion on MON OBE there and I decided to throw in my 2 cents worth. Hardly a bigee.
3 SPL titles in his 5 year reign was nothing remarkable. Strachan with 3 from 4 is a better stat anyway if you value SPL titles. Think Strachan got further in the Champions League too but I could be wrong there.
hows the health there mate?

Was Sylla there for all 5 seasons? What about Hartson? They made your list of powerful athletes. Not sure why it would be different for Lubo but they’re your rules I suppose.

Don’t beat yourself up about it mate, you just don’t remember him properly is all.
A point for those who know what they’re talking about - I never bought into the post MON adulation of the guy. Thought he was a great manager when he was at CP but when he decided he had to go, that was it, end of the affair. We took too long to move on from him and to be fair to Strachan, O’Neill left the club in a bit of a state, he was clearly (understandably) distracted in his final season. But the fact that we were excellent on set pieces and had some biggish players shouldn’t detract from the fact that his teams went out to win every game and they largely did so playing some excellent football - again his last season would be the general exception, particularly pre Christmas.
While Strachan encouraged short passing maybe a bit more than O’Neill it was often negative and the biggest gripe I had with him was how quickly we abandoned that game in big games. And as he grew more restless in the job he started to consider every away game a big game and all of a sudden we were playing for narrow victories or draws at teams we should have been beating. It wasn’t the worst result in the world but there was a 0-0 with the huns at Celtic Park in 2009 that was just an example of everything negative about Strachan. He dropped McGeady for Flood, McDonald missed a sitter and Hinkel had a chance from a corner I think. Other than that we played like cowards for 90 minutes and threw away a chance to take a huge step to the title that day. I was delighted with our CL run to Milan and some of the football when the team were left off the leash was excellent but I think he lost his nerve and let caution and negativity take over, to the detriment of the team.
In actual transfer news Grafite has left Wolfsburg for Dubai. Not quite as prolific in his last two seasons at Wolfsburg but still a decent player and I’d expect him to take the piss in that league if he’s bothered. He joins Cannavaro at Al-Ahli who sacked David O’Leary recently after an 8th place finish (out of 12 teams I think).
Malaga have completed the signings of Joris Mathijsen and Jeremy Toulanon to add to the earlier purchase of Van Nistelrooy. These cunts are beginning to piss me off, they are also supposed to be holding talks with Roma target Ricky Alvarez tomorrow.
Alexis Sanchez is supposed to be very close to a move to Barcelona.
I’m surprised Barca have opted for Sanchez over Rossi, presuming they’re both in roughly the same price range.
Malaga are putting a decent team together but I don’t think it will be enough to bring them up to the standard of Villarreal or Atletico, never mind the top two. Mathijsen and Toulalan are good signings but I don’t think Van Nistelrooy has much left in him, Baptista is hit and miss and I never really rated Demicheles.
Would it be inconceivable that Barca might now get the two of them? They had a bid rejected for Rossi this week according to Rossi’s agent and Rossell was quoted this week in saying they may spend over their outlined budget. It looks likely that Sanchez will arrive - it’s now a matter of whether Barca pursue either Rossi or Fabregas.
I’m sure it will also take this Malaga side some time to gel.
