2011 Summer Transfer Window

Ashley Young to Utd confirmed.

A 5 year deal to boot. I’d imagine Downling wont be far behind him if you’re to read anything into the picture of him holding up a Liverpool scarf on holidays recently, and I am.

That was a doctored picture apparently.

You just cant trust the internet anymore

Criscito’s move to Napoli has fallen through.

Adrian Mutu has joined Cesena.

The most exciting player at Villa since Yorke and MON’s best signing. Started slowly when he first came in but then had two brilliant seasons back to back. In that time with Laursen in the side, Young was the source of the majority of Villa’s goals with his superb deliveries from set pieces. He also combined really well with the likes of Gabby, Carew and Gareth Barry. Guess his best performance was against Everton in Goodison with MON giving him the whole ‘world class’ speech afterwards. Some Villa fans would point to that being the moment when it went to his head. Certainly his attitude deteriorated with persistent diving, abuse to referees and other acts of petulance was increasing. While it might be true to some extent that the hype went to his head, I think teams figured out that to stop Villa, they needed to double mark him. It worked and Young stopped taking on his man as much becoming increasingly frustrated with the lack of support. His form did deteriorate at the back end of 09/10 and it wasnt a surprise that he wasnt included in the England WC squad. Then again SWP, Joe Cole and Milner were bizarrely ahead of him in the queue.

Last season his attitude at time was diabolical in his new position behind the striker. The mess of a management situation had Young doing what he liked, heading back to the half way line to take freekicks etc. Still though when it came down the stretch, he was a man reborn with Darren Bent in the side. A final tally of 9 goals and 14 assists wasnt a bad last season.

Ironically enough it was when in the worst run of form with Villa that he finally got a proper chance with England. He was always in a different class to the other England wide options so Im delighted for him that he is showing what he can do at international level now too.

He was a player in need of a move to someone like United. His game had suffered a little at Villa, his crossing and set pieces so long his strength had deteriorated a lot and a stronger manager than Houllier is required to let him know who is calling the shots. A player of his ability should be getting 15 goals a season easy yet his highest at Villa was 10. His shooting needs improvement really as he will always get chances. I think he is a great fit for Man Utd. Seems strange how the outstanding Nani has fallen down the pecking order and Id expect him to leave now. Young has a lot to learn to play in a number 10 position but out wide 442 or in a 433 he will be a great fit at Old Trafford.

Strong rumours going around that he wants to move, Juventus are apparently his club of choice. All in all would prefer to keep Nani than have bought Young. He will doubtless do well in the Premier League but cant see him making a huge difference in Europe.

£27m bid from Barcelona for Fabregas. Fucking jokers.

Nani isnt that comfortable on the left and it appears Fergie rates Valencia more than him on the right. Young can play on the left comfortably. Strange the way Nani and Berbatov to an extent kept United in the EPL title race for long tracts of the season and now find themselves on the scrap head.

I think people are overestimating ‘Europe’. The only team better than United in Europe are Barcelona. Fair enough if you think Young would have no impact against Barcelona but there is a host of other teams that he could do damage against.

real madrid are way ahead of utd too

in regards to young ,it shows how far utd have fallen that they are buying players like him, he hasnt shown anything at international level apart froma good 20 mins vs andorra

I wouldnt call Nani outstanding. Flashy, can have some good moments every now and again but that’s about it.

People compare him to Ronaldo for obvious reasons but in Ronaldo’s early days he showed more than Nani ever has.

Is it true Young will be on the guts of 130K a week?

No-one is comparing Nani to Ronaldo? Ronaldo is obviously a far better player, the issue is whether he is better than Young. Personally I dont see the logic in selling Nani and replacing him with a player who is his equal at best and who is equally inconsistent.

Doubt Young is on 130k. More like 90k I would think. 130k would put him higher than Vidic and a few more, cant believe that. Young has said that Liverpool offered more money but that he preferred Utd.

That mongoloid on Today FM said they basically doubled his 65-70K wage from Villa. Found it very unbelievable myself. Be curious to know what he’s really on so.

Some of the tabloid rags have stories claiming he is on 130k but wouldn’t pay much heed to them.

You’ve heard otherwise elsewhere?

Some of the Utd fora are saying around 90k, would be more inclined to believe that. 130K would put him amongst the top earners at Utd and I doubt he would be on that level at least initially.

120k a week according to the Indo today

That’d pay for some wedding…
