2011 Summer Transfer Window

It’s clichéd drivel in any case.

Can you see Doyle losing interest in, say a match in the Reebok Stadium of a Tuesday night, like all the other Johnny foreigners do?

Yawn.

Doyle has scored 14 goals IN TOTAL for Wolves in the two seasons he has been there. He has played a total of 60 matches. Not a great record by any stretch of the imagination.

Would agree its not a great return but he’s played large parts as a lone striker who’s aim is to provide an outlet an hold up as much ball as possible. He’s never going to be outpacing defenders to long balls over the top. Even with Ireland, when he plays, every single kick out is landed on him to either hold up or head / flick on. He’s proved he can score goals while he was with reading but its more about the system he’s played in at the moment.

55 goals in 155 matches - and a lot of those in the Championship. Whatever you may say about Doyle’s role being more to provide than to score, he is not a proven goalscorer.

Doyle is very similar in style of play to Chamakh in any case.

I said he’s proved he can score goals. I would have that as being slightly different as a proven goalscorer. Anyway, I’m biased so debating with me on it is probably a pointless exercise.

I like Doyle. I think he is a good, skillful player while being an excellent target man and being a hard worker but his goal record is just not good enough in my opinion, even taking his ‘role’ into consideration.

I think he’s a relatively proven goalscorer Farmer. I don’t think he needs to be hitting 20 goals every season for teams on the brink of relegation to be considered a good striker.

I’d agree with Totti that he’s similar enough to Chamakh but his workrate is better and I’d say he’s a bit more consistent - certainly he has few enough games that pass him by, even if he’s not playing well.

I presumed it was a crazy rumour when I first heard it but I can understand the merits of it from Arsenal’s point of view. He would give them a focal point, he would allow them to make better use of his wingers and while his movement has been a bit predictable in the last few seasons that has been largely down to instructions on style of play in my opinion.

He’s certainly not the box office signing that Arsenal fans would be hoping for, and he won’t really be the type of signing to bring them to the next level, but he’s competent at EPL level and there’s no reason he’d be less than competent at a better club.

I never said that he needs to be hitting 20 goals a season but 14 goals in two seasons does not eqaute to proven goalscorer in my book.

John Percy wrote it, its from some UK blog I got a link to, thought it was interesting enough perception of Doyle from fans and others. I’d be of the opinion that Doyle has proven he can score goals when in a team which has some attacking nous to it, but he’s suffered with Wolves due to them favouring a defensive line up due to their rubbish defence and need to flood midfield. I’d like to see him go to Arsenal, it’d be interesting to see how he’d go. I think the fact that Wenger is even considering it shows a serious swing in his own transfer policy also. I have no idea if it would be a success for player or Club, but Doyle has little or nothing to lose surely.

Welcome to yesterday when Bandage first posted it. I’d be of the opinion that a lot has changed in 2 years anyway. Two years ago City were a Club blustering a lot and achieving little. While they only have an FA Cup to show for their troubles, they have a damn fine side there, with a manager that is respected and imposes strict disciplines on his players. They are also in the UCL and look set to be there for some time (or at least as long as the money keeps flowing as it is with all of the big clubs nowadays). Its a new ball game.

So was he a proven goalscorer when he scored 18 for Reading in one season (twice)? And did he somehow lose that proof along the way?

When he’s playing in teams that are winning games he’s been fairly productive in terms of goals. He’s not an out and out poacher maybe but to put it another way - he’s a more proven goalscorer than Conor Wickham for example. Doesn’t mean he’ll always outscore him but I wouldn’t be dismissing his capabilities.

Doyle is a gimp that failed at St Pats

His goal scoring record is poor, he is below par technically & isnt fast. he is an average target man but becuase he works hard the Irish fans seem to like him

in reality he is a poor mans steven fletcher. Id consider kilduff a better player

+1

in terms of winning trophies Man City are now a better bet. Most players will choose city over Arsenal

Thanks for clearing that up MBB. Today is Monday. In your world Carlos Tevez still wants to play for City, your in for some shock tonight so !

Tevez stated months ago he wanted to leave mate. If he does, he does. If he doesn’t he doesn’t. Its only EPL football after all.

Ive said it before but Kevin Doyle needs a complete reevaluation of his game this summer. He needs proper coaching in the art of being a forward and getting in goalscoring positions. Its all well holding the ball up on the half way line but he used to be really dangerous with crosses into the box. Under Staunton he was livelier in a green shirt too. Now he tends to be the one putting it in the box or winning set pieces. Really hope he can get out of Wolves as he has regressed significantly as a player imo. Wolves looked more of a goal threat later in the season when he was out of the team.

Fletcher scored 12 goals last season and Ebanks Blake 7 in all competitions. Kevin Doyle only got 8. Think he needs to lose weight too, seems stuck to the ground these days and is picking up a lot of muscle injuries. Really hope he can get away from McCarthy’s neanderthal tactics. A genuine alright sort too so hope to seem him back to his best next season but talk of Arsenal is surely way off the mark.

This Conca lad who left Fluminense to join a Chinese club is now the 3rd highest player in the world!

He’s 28, tiny (Runt-sized probably), uncapped by Argentina, a bit of a journeyman (but a bit of flair I think) midfielder and he’s pocketing £6.4m a year at Guangzhou Evergrande.

Make up your mind Rocko, is he tiny or high?

I disagree
