2011 Summer Transfer Window

Brazilian giants Corinthians have tabled an offer of 40million euros for Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez, Press Association Sport understands.

Unsettled Tevez wants to leave City after two years with the club and has cited family reasons, saying last week that he wants to be closer to his two children and their mother who live in Argentina.

It initially seemed a fanciful prospect that Tevez would be able to move to South America, as no club was believed to have the financial clout to sign him from City.

However the offer from Sao Paulo club Corinthians may interest City.

It would mean 27-year-old Tevez joining a team who are not their rivals in any competition, and he would be rejoining the club he played for from 2004 to 2006, before making a controversial move to West Ham.

Until Corinthians made their interest known to City, Tevez looked certain to remain in Europe, possibly in Spain or Italy, with a club such as Real Madrid or AC Milan, both potential Champions League rivals of City in the coming season.

Finding a club with the funds to buy the Argentina frontman, and space in their squad for him, promised to be a difficult task.
But the offer from Corinthians may offer Tevez an escape route from his current frustrations in England.

Tevez has scored 53 goals in 86 appearances for City since joining from neighbours Manchester United, emphasising what a key figure he is in manager Roberto Mancini’s squad.

He struggled for form towards the end of last season but still finished level with Dimitar Berbatov as leading scorer in the Barclays Premier League as City finished third.

Puke seems to be on the ball here alright, Carlos Tevez’s advisor Kia Joorabchian claims a deal to take the Manchester City captain back to Corinthians is “close”

Hard for anyone else to get him now anyway. The one thing Corinithians have done is ensure there’s an out for City. So it really drives up the price for European clubs who would have to pay a huge premium over the Corinithians fee to get him.

West Brom stepping up their chase for Shane Long now apparently. Long-Cox puns welcomed again.

Wonder who City will go for in his place?

Forgive my ignorance Mr Totti, I know you’ve said before there’s no chance of Zlatan moving, but has his ownership situation been resolved yet? I dont honestly recall myself and would be of the impression that Barca wouldnt say no to a huge bid from City and The Big Z wouldnt say no to rejoining Roberto. Another league title there to be added to the big mans collection were it to happen.

Zlatan and City would be a good match.

Two frauds.

This will be the true test of The Big Z, to see if he can do it on a wet night in Stoke. It could lead to him winning me over. This will surely be very important to him.

I really can’t see it. Zlatan is very settled in Milan and I don’t think this will come to fruition but with City’s financial backing anything could happen.

Lavezzi has been strongly linked with City and Mancini is a big fan of his, but he likes to play a deeper role than Tevez so he wouldn’t be a like for like swap. Cavani is another player City could go for but it would have to be a crazy price for Napoli to consider selling.

Aguero maybe?

If Zlatan were to join City and Scheijder joins Utd then that could make it an interesting race in the bid to become the first player to have a winners medal for the Premier League, Seria A and La Liga.

Maybe, City are about the only club able/willing to meet his buyout clause at present. Whether Aguero would rather hold out for a move to Madrid or Italy is another thing.

Hard to know the full extent of their transfer strategy either. To date they haven’t spent that much big money on players from CL clubs. Other than Balotelli (and others I’m forgetting probably) they’ve picked up one or two but generally for modest fees. When they’re splashing big cash it has tended to be to lower clubs like Aston Villa, Everton or Wolfsburg. Signing Aguero would fit into that strategy of strengthening City while not sharing their financial clout with who they’d perceive as rivals.

That’s true actually, the only one that could be argued is Adebayor and Toure to Arsenal, although you can guarantee Wenger wouldn’t be spending that.

Ya Ya toure from Barcelona for 24million? If they want to improve players from other champions league clubs are the ones they should be targetting, not spending huge sums on players stepping up to that level like Barry and Milner.

Forgot about him! Yeah I agree they should be going after proven quality and weakening rivals in the process but first phase seems to be to establish themselves first.

City have rejected Cornthians £35M offer.

Reds to move for Bridge

Liverpool could turn their attentions to Manchester City left-back Wayne Bridge after failing to land Leighton Baines from Everton.

The red half of Merseyside were hoping to prise Baines away from the blue half, but Everton boss David Moyes was not interested so they have turned their attentions elsewhere.

Bridge is further down the pecking order then ever at City, after they signed Gael Clichy from Arsenal, so he is almost certain to move away from the club in order to get first team football.

Reds boss Kenny Dalglish is after a left-back as Paul Konchesky and Fabio Aurelio do not fit the bill so a move for Bridge, who spent half of last season on loan at West Ham, looks to be on the cards.

City will allow him to move for a nominal fee but his wages, reportedly £90,000 a week, may prove to be a problem for the Reds.
