I was under the impression Henderson played in the middle for Sunderland.
He’s altenated between the centre and right frequently. He’s is probably of more use on the right as he’s a player who struggles with the basics.
There was lots of mentions in the press of Adam being signed to play tucked in on the left hand side. Didn’t see any direct quotes from player or manager to back it up though.
Kaka being linked with a move back to AC Milan today, he really has flopped at Madrid although not helped by injury.
Didn’t realise that Joaquin had joined Malaga, to think he was one of the hottest prospects in Europe nearly 10 years ago when he first broke through at Betis, a fine right winger on his day but he can be as frustrating as hell and injury prone too.
Anyone know much of this Diego Buonanotte they have signed as well
I guess this is why he was bought, still not a fan but onwards and upwards
"But it is amongst the murky world of the, (hated by me), Opta index, and Damien Comolli’s statistics that we can really see where Downing comes into his own.
So what about Downing statistics? The Opta index certainly makes for good reading. Downing has averaged well over 30 appearances in the last 5 seasons. He has also managed to complete 135 successful crosses in the last 3 seasons. That’s more than any other player in the league. Only four players, some of the best ever Premier League midfielders, (Stevie G, Giggs, Fabregas and Lampard) have created more Premier League chances than Downing since 2004"
Delighted to see Betis back in the top flight this season. Joaquin was a lovely player on his day, but like you say he was very hit and miss. Himself and Denilson in the same team could have been brilliant, but it wasn’t.
Dalglish’s policy of building around good British talent may be a step too far here. Cattermole is a decent player, however his disciplinary record is poor. Also, it’s difficult to see where there would be room for him with a fully fit Gerard, Adam, Lucas, Henderson and possibly Aquilani (unless he’s offloaded) all competing for central midfield roles. IMO, Cattermole is certainly no better than the first 3 above and he’s too prone to ridiculous challenges and picking up easy yellow/red cards.
Big welcome to Seamus Given , hopefully he can stay fit for the full season, good signing which should help Irelands qualifying campaign.
Any word on his wages Rint? Happy to see him move.
Still waiting on the payout from city, not sure of the wages but talk is of 55k Stg .
Given to be confirmed tomorrow. 4 Irish internationals at Villa Park next season
Villa being linked with Alan Hutton, obviously McLeish managed him in the non leagues before but he seemed a poor defender at Spurs. Might be ok I guess.
Nzogbia deal is looking a bit dodgy, linked with Juan Manuel Vargas now. No idea how good he is but its unlike Villa to be linked to exotic sounding players from the continent.
Dunne has apparently lost a good bit of weight over the summer. Can see him having a massive season with Given in.
Im not a huge fan of Cuellar but he is too good to be heading to Glasgow. Another 6m or so lost on a player. He was poor at right back, shocking on the ball but never won a firm place at centre half in his time at the club I suppose. Collins would want to get the finger out big time, he was dreadful last season but suspect he will start ahead of Clark early on anyway. Worried about the injury prone Luke Young and Warnock being our only options at full back now.
Heskey linked with Leicester, awful fucking player. Think Harewood was actually better in a Villa shirt.
Im not bothered about Scott Parker, 7m for a 31 year old is the kind of business that got us in financial trouble in the first place. Barton would be preferrable for me, cheaper, younger and probably a better player at his best.
Fucking hell, is Heskey still playing? I thought he retired years ago.
he is a defensive forward these days, kind of a NFL linebacker. An impostor of a footballer and has been for many a year.
Once looked a good player at Liverpool.
Once, a long long time ago, much in the same vein as the much missed Stan Collymore.
Stan Collymore and Emile Heskey in the same sentence? FFS!
Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini confirms an agreement has been reached with Corinthians for the sale of Carlos Tevez
I don’t remember a south American club paying that much for a player before?
Its a big move alright for them, you get the impression theres more than meets the eye to this deal. My knowledge of South Amierican football is quite limited but havent Corinthians been splashing the cash for a bit now, if not to this extent however.
What I do think this does though is set up City but a big tilt at Aguero.
