I’m thinking of heading over for a few days of this. Granted I’ve fuck all interest in a lot of the sports but I’ve never been to an Olympics, am never likely to go if it’s not this time, and with Ben Shermin’s sail and rail option and dirt cheap accommodation it’s very, very tempting. Should I do it or should I refrain out of being just be a pathetic event junkie?
I was only thinking the other night that I was sorry I didn’t try to get over for some of it.
I’d imagine it would be great to see, even just to walk around the village (if Joe soaps can do that? )

You need tickets to get on the park. i have to say it looks unbelieveable. at this stage your best chance of getting in is to go to the paralympics in a few weeks. i’ve been on the park every day since it commenced, you meet loads of athletes milling around many of them nobodies but some belters in fairness.
is there any athlete that is famous apart from bolt- dont think so - phelps is midely famous - thats it apart from football and tennis players- its really a bunch a nobodies playing bespoke sports
Some Ethiopian lad called Getahun hilariously ran into the last barrier on the home straight in the steeplechase and was brought off by medics in a wheelchair. He was tailed off way behind and everyone else had finished. Not sure if he was so disorientated/tired and didn’t notice it or if he was too fucked to jump it. He basically got clotheslined by it. :lol:

Women’s 100m heats have just finished now with no problems for any of the good athletes. Jeter looked the best with 10.83 without looking under pressure. Fraser-Pryce looked easy with 11.00. Campbell-Brown was next best with 10.93, then Baptiste with 10.96. It should be between those four for the medals with Jeter and Fraser taking the top two. I would have picked Fraser before the heats but not sure now.
