2013 French Open
Gulbis has been beaten by Monfils, 3 sets to 1.

Bit surprised by that, Gulbis has been playing well lately and has a good record at Roland Garros. That side of the draw is certainly wide open, Tsonga, Federer, Ferrer and Monfils all capable.
Gulbis had a meltdown in the middle of the match and handed the third set to Monfils with all the misses he made.

Nadal didn’t get on court today with the weather interrupting the schedule, he will play Fognini (who knocked out Rosol) in the third round should he advance. Djokovic went through in straight sets today, he now faces a meeting with Dimitrov tomorrow who knocked him out in Madrid a couple of weeks ago and has been in impressive form during the clay court season. This will probably be Djokovic’s toughest challenge before the semi final.

Nadal lost the first set 6-4 but is currently 4-1 up in the second against Klizan. :frowning:

Mr Muscle whingeing about the weather and scheduling. He’s an awful mouthpiece.

Rafael Nadal described the French Open scheduling as “unfair” and “a joke” after he completed his second-round match on day six of the tournament.
The seven-time champion beat Martin Klizan 4-6 6-3 6-3 6-3 on Court Suzanne Lenglen in a match held over from Thursday because of rain.
But Nadal was unhappy that his third-round opponent, Fabio Fognini, benefited from a day off on Friday having been scheduled earlier on Thursday and completed his match against Lukas Rosol.
“I think everybody knows in this room that the schedule of yesterday was wrong,” said Nadal. "That’s the real thing.
"I don’t know if the director of the tournament, supervisors, guys who take the positions, they take a bad position two days ago, because when you make the schedule at 7:00 in the [evening], not 11:00 in the morning, you know which weather predictions you have for the next days.
"I cannot play third after men’s and girls when my possible opponent plays second after girls. That’s not fair. And today I was playing almost three hours on court, and my opponent was watching the TV in the locker room.
“So if you told me that’s fair, I say that’s not fair. The only thing that I can do is be positive, smile, and try to win my match and try to be ready for tomorrow.”
The first week of the French Open has been disrupted by poor weather, and Thursday was the worst hit.
Nadal was scheduled third on Lenglen but after wins for Grigor Dimitrov and Victoria Azarenka, the Spaniard did not get any further than the knock-up before the rain returned.
“This is not right, and I hope they accept the mistake because girls plays best of three,” he said.
"For them it’s a normal tournament. Even if they play Grand Slam and all the matches of the career and all the tournaments, they play best of three. It’s not a change. If they have to play two days in a row, it’s not a big deal.
"For us it’s completely different. The excuse they told me was because Rosol has to play doubles. I am sorry, but that’s a joke. You have one more week to play doubles if you want to play doubles.
"Why do you want to protect the player who has to play doubles? So I’m going to write myself on the doubles draw then and I have the priority to play? That’s not the right excuse to make a schedule like this.
“I don’t want to keep talking, because it seems like I am the bad guy saying that, but that’s the real thing, and everybody here knows that’s not right.”

Familiar trend at the 2013 Championship unfolding again. Nadal a break down at 2-3 to Fognini. Surely he can’t lose the opening set for a third straight match?

Fognini really let that first set slip. Twice a break up but couldn’t hold on and Nadal take the tie-break 7-5.

Tommy Haas has just blown 12 (Twelve) match points, as Isner levels it at 2 sets all, winning the tiebreak in the 4th 12-10.

7-7 in the 5th now. Very much early days for Isner.

Djokovic has a shoulder problem.

Haas won it in the end. 10-8 in the final set.

Isner couldn’t move in the final couple of games.

match point for the 4th time to Djokovic.

Game, set and match to Djokovic. I am delighted it was only 3 sets. That moany cunt nadal will be sick it was only 3 sets after all his moaning about schedules.

Who haas won it?

Of the two likely winners, Novak has looked the most impressive so far. Mind you a tricky match in the 4th round against Kohlschreiber who beat him in the 3rd round in 2009.

Rafa looks a bit jaded. My theory is he’s played far too much tennis since his return and it could tell against him come next Friday. Less than stellar performance again today, but never was in any trouble either and he should negotiate his way to the semi final without too many problems.

Federer has big chances of winning next Sunday. He’s in imperious form so far and you’d expect him to reach the final without too many difficulties.

Every chance now Federer won’t make it past this Sunday yet alone next Sunday. He coasted to first set 6-1 seemingly in top form. Then at 3-3 in 2nd set fell heavily, hurting his right wrist. Promptly lost serve and the second set and Simon has now won the 3rd set.

Federer’s record against Simon is not very good.

They said earlier in the commentary that it was 3-2 to Federer in 5 previous meetings with Federer having won the last 3. Rome last month was the first on clay and Federer won 6-1 6-2.
