Unbelievable scenes!
The world champion is out in Round 1!
Where else would you get it?
Delicious breasts on Kong’s partner Ruth.
I thought the come back was on there but he missed too many trebles in the end. The magic of the lakeside continues.
That’s the seventh time in the history of the world championship that the reigning champion has gone out in Round 1.
An absoulutely amazing statistic but it shows the sheer strength in depth of the field over the years.
The Liver bird walks proudly on Robbie’s collar.
Bhoys, are Dave and Sharon Prins related?
A quick search of the excellent BDO website reveals that they are not.
She describes herself as a 24 year-old rock chick who rides a powerful 600cc motorbike and comes on stage to ‘Born To Be Wild’. She is not related to England’s DAVE PRINS and plays under the nickname of ‘Racing Angel.’
Real people, real darts.
I love it when Martin Fitzmaurice shouts out “England, versus England”.
Thommo and Robbo now. This is a proper old school clash.
Garry Thompson with his own theme song.
Great camaraderie between the players.
Garry Thompson says that he has been sometimes “racked with doubt” while up on the famous Lakeside stage.
I certainly sensed last year that he hadn’t put the ghosts of his truly agonising loss to Jan Dekker in the 2011 quarter-final behind him.
And he’s 2-0 down to Big Robbo in set 1 here.
Lovely solid darts here. No bullshit commentary, no crowd antics or drama from players, just solid darts.
That was a simply magnificent match. I watched it in The 51 on the Friday night where Google were having their traditional “Little Christmas” party. By the end of the match there must have been about 70 people from all corners of the globe glued to the TV screen. It represented everything beautiful about The Lakeside.
First set to Big Robbo.
Even though Bobby George had this to say about his use of a psychologist:
“Loada rubbish…it’s Mickey Maaas, init…”
That’s exactly what this great tournament has always been about - bringing people together.
The pressure of the Lakeside really got to Thommo there as he busted himself by hitting treble 19 when left with 35.
Great bottle by Thommo there ashe holds his nerve to take the deciding leg in set 2. My word, how he needed to hit that - and did.
Anthony Dundass is doing a great job on debut here as our match referee. As a rule, I don’t like Scottish people but he’s forcing me to revise my pre-conceptions.
Thompson in the groove now.
