2013 Six Nations

Figure skating. I’ll go to my grave in my belief that Torvill and Dean should have won their second Olympic gold at Lillehammer in 1994.

Insecurities how exactly? Football is the biggest sport in this country by a distance. Biggest sport across the world. Can’t see rugby overtaking it in 10 lifetimes.

It was a decent bit of skill by Zebo considering the speed he was running at. But the general reaction to it (in my opinion) is OTT. It was a ‘keepy uppy’ with the help of his hands. Personally I thought the timing, weight and vision of O’Driscoll’s pass for the first try was much more worthy of all the appreciation being given out.

As for the George North comment, it reminds of the classic line that always seems to get bandied about in my office like ‘I’d love to see Drogba thrown into the middle of a 6 nations game’. Pointless argument. Imagine throwing any professional rugby player into an EPL game…they’d be laughed out the gate.

Yes we get it how rugby players put their bodies on the line. Fair play to them indeed. Doesn’t mean sports fans in general can’t comment on things being overhyped in rugby without being slagged as insecure. Plenty of people comment of soccer being overhyped and rightly so on many occasions.

It’s overhyped here Phil because it’s the only pro sport wer competitive at the top level in. No other reason.

The same reason other sport see it as a threat. I couldn’t give a fuck if people enjoy it or not. You made a comment earlier though about rugby fans making snide comments about soccer or GAH, which is not representative if you ask me. But anyways each to their own

Facebook is awful for these type of puke-inducing status updates. It’s pretty difficult to avoid them if you have a load of upper class cunts in your friend list as I have.

<blockquote class="ipsBlockquote]
Like a kid at Christmas, first game of 6 nations. So exciting. Ancient Irish jersey and scarf on, Irish Saturday newspapers consumed, off to get biltong and beer and we’re good. Shoulder to shoulder.
What’s a biltong?

It’s a strap on penis popular amongst rugby supporters.

At 8pm this evening my Facebook newsfeed was full of comments mentioning the rugby game. At least 70% of them were from women - that’s what wrong with the game.

Fair comments Dan. I wouldn’t say the majority of rugby fans make snide comments but there are plenty who do. Especially around south county Dublin or the wannabe Dulchies.

Overall, most lads in Ireland have an interest in most sports. We are a pack of bandwagoning cunts really in comparison to most other countries. Half the lads making those snide comments were probably first down the pub when Ireland were playing Croatia last summer or if their county reached an All Ireland.

Some kind of South African meat apparently. Looks like it was made out of the fleash of Steve Biko to me.

60-0

No different to being beaten 6-1 at home by ze germans DB

Ahhhh. I call mine sebastian …

It’s very different - it’s way easier to score in rugby and this so called golden generation couldn’t manage one measly score

Twas a meaningless friendly game at the end of a month long piss up in the Southern Hemisphere. The only lads who got excited about it were those who’d pissed away their summer holiday on a trip to Eastern Europe.

When you add in all the multitudes of fat accountants trundling about once a week under lights you boost the participation numbers but for actual playing members taking part in real games the gaa is bigger
re the insecurities you can’t have missed all the spanners vomiting their disdain for and lack of interest in what was an excellent match. If people have no interest they soul wander along and have no interest.
On the matter of zebos skill you clearly don’t understand the significance of it. Rugby players are conditioned by the nature of their sport to go for the ball with their hands. the only time a rugby player ever pots their foot to a ball not under their control is when it is on the ground in front of them. Zebo went against all that conditioning in order not to stop his momentum flicked it up while going forward. The mark of genius is to do things others wouldn’t. A soccer goalkeeper comes and catchs a corner under pressure and gets roundly praised for it. Should a topic with such a moment on it be instantly filled with gaelic football fans sneering because no one else can use their hands.

South side dubs are a distraction when it comes to Irish rugby team. Last Irish captains were from, not in correct order

Newbridge
Wicklow
Co down x2
Clontarf
Limerick cideee
Bishopstown
Yorkshire
Bray
Corrow
Kill aloe x2

I make Niall Hogan the last south side Dublin captain about 15 yrs back. Before that Bradley, lenihan, Matthews etc etc far from the closed shop some may think. I’d suggest a stronger argument could be made that south Dublin is underrepresented based on no of international players they have produced
The insecurity of soccer fans is endless. The manufactured nature of their decision regarding who to support is never resolved and leads to all this loud bleating.
Lads knocking zebos skill on the basis that messi our some other lad could do better is the funniest part of it.
They could all do better with the ball but you can bet your arse they wouldn’t flatten george north and then get up and do it.

Good post.

It was decent skill but it appealed to the obvious and as you say O’Driscoll’s pass was probably more skillful and certainly more reflective of a supreme talent.

And you’re bang on about the tackling George North thing too. That’s the sport. Of course he had to get up and tackle George North. He’s be useless at his sport if he didn’t. That’s not to slight him for doing well, but the idea of manliness is often bandied about in rugby as though it’s unique. When I was younger all i ever heard, and believed, was that rugby league players were softer because they wore pads. It was completely wrong and that became immediately apparent when the two games became more aligned when union went professional.

It’s not something that regularly gets mentioned by NFL fans for example. At least not that I see.

Good post. Zebo was a good GAA player in both codes as Kev would no doubt attest to we’re he still about. Plenty of his GAA pals bugging him up on twitter

This is the sort of shit that I could understand would turn people off rugby. Good marketing for Flanos crew nonetheless given the weekend thats in it.
