2014 National Football League

Some display from Dublin. They’ve put a 70 minute together like they did in the 20 minutes against Cork.

Relentless. I think that Cork team is the only one capable of getting near them. Might take another year though.

Cork don’t have the mentality for it.

If Dublin play like that they are unstoppable for anyone. Monaghan and Tyrone are best placed to stop them on an off-day which they are bound to have at some stage during the championship. It has to be said what a huge advantage Croke Park is to him though.

70 mins?? II Bomber, they were on cruise control for most of the 2nd half. A lot more to come from the Dubs…frightening really.

Very hot on the Hill, off for refreshments …Jaysus Cluxton is a dour fucker.

Just seen that Kavanagh sending off, a cowardly belt in the balls.

Almost every Gaelic football team for the last 30 years is supposed to be weak in their full back line. It’s just a very hard place to play. You’d very rarely hear of a team being ‘very strong in the full back line’

I don’t agree with that.

It’s the way Dublin play that leaves their full back line exposed and isolated, rather than the individuals themselves, if teams can get early ball into a pacy full forward line then they could be caused some trouble.

Eoghan O Gara continues to make quite a few fellas on here look very very foolish indeed.

I wasn’t commenting on dublin specifically I was saying its a cliche to say a team are weak in their full back line. It’s said about almost every good team.
Dublin have as good a players as any other team in the country in their full back line. Especially for the game they’re trying to play.

I don’t remember hearing this cliche much, not unless it was warranted.

There weren’t too many questions on Tyrone’s full back line from 2003-2008 onwards, there weren’t many questions on Donegal’s full back line. I think you must be imagining things. Usually if there are questions on a full back line it’s warranted. For instance I wouldn’t have many questions on Mayo’s full back line but their full forward line. I think you’re weird.

Last Derry player from the City was Big Tom McGuinness back in the early 70s. Tom is a brother of Martin.

It’s a cliche. You’re spouting generalised shit about Gaelic football but obviously know little or nothing about it. People are letting you at it but I doubt any of them are fooled. It does prove how ridiculous sports analysis is though as you’re coming across as vaguely plausible despite more than likely never having played or attended a game. You’re from armagh and support tyrone ffs. Whatever makes you happy though.

I’m not making generalisations, I think you’re making stuff up though. The ironic thing is that you are the one making generalisations, saying that it is claimed most team’s weakness is their full back line when it is not. There were no real question marks over the Donegal full back line in recent years, neither were there about the Tyrone full back line in their period of dominance or about the Mayo full back line in the last years. Instead there may have been question marks in other areas of the pitch. Keep going out of your way to be argumentative with me and I will continue to swat you aside.

I wasnt originally having a pop at you more making a throw away observation on a phrase I’ve heard scores of times down the years about teams at all levels of the game hurling and football. Off the top of my head at county level its even been said about the recent great Kerry and Kilkenny teams for instance among many others. Its especially a big one at club and underage level. Theres more than just good teams at county level but then you obviously wouldn’t get that as you seem like a fella who’s just decided to start watching gaelic football on telly and become an expert on it like someone would Dutch football or ice hockey on ESPN. In fairness to you you’re an intelligent fella well able to spout shit so you’re making a decent fist of sounding plausible but it’s still fairly obvious you’ve no feel for it. You should get out in the fresh air and go to a game or god forbid play one. You might enjoy it.

that’s complete bullshit …O Gara was terrible for nearly 2 years with the dubs…he kept getting picked and his performances were not up to intercounty level…anyone who watched him playing regularly in that time could see that…he’s improved considerably and is a very good option for Dublin coming off the bench when the game opens up because of his strength and power…he still does some awful stupid things with the ball…

His potential was always there, granted he was a diamond in the very rough but he offered something no other Dublin forward could and was a useful plan B. The abuse he took on and offline was unwarranted however and the fact that many still refuse to acknowledge his ability and huge improvement is just plain ignorance. I don believe you were one such person mind, but it is what it is.

at first I thought he offered something with his ball winning ability but then he just made far too many basic mistakes, and for me I couldn’t see how the hell he was in a head of Keaney, who behind the brogans was Dublin’s best forward for a few years and was at the time Dublin club footballer of the year …would love to have seen how keaney would have got on if he was given the same run at full forward as O Gara was under gilroy…we’ll never know though…

He’s more than just a good option off the bench now.

still think Mayo are Dublin’s main challengers …ironically I think it was a blessing in disguise they didn’t sneak over the line against Derry and meet Dublin in that form…they would have got hammered with the form they are in at moment …best for them keep the head down and sort a few issues out and work towards August…

From the bits and pieces I saw of yesterday Dublin looked very good. Great mix of athleticism and footballing ability and a strong bench to boot. Shame that they look so strong and it would be a very even and open champiosnhip without them*

*Dublin may well not win the A/I but they look a cut above everything else at the moment
