2014 Six Nations Thread - Come the Power & the Glory

Quisling. Now there is a word you don’t see bandied about often. Top class debating here gentlemen. Please continue. I really enjoyed the game yesterday myself. Wasn’t overly bothered by the outcome but, bar the Galway hurling team, I would by and large prefer the team I support to lose a great game than win a dire one as it is far more entertaining. I am slightly dreading all the media shite which will inevitably flow for the next few days. Marian finucane is probably the worst.
Dublin GAA is the biggest bandwagon of them all. 10 years ago the first round of the Leinster championship against Wexford was a complete sell out. Only the semi and final of the All Ireland sell out now.

No, I’d say that honour resides firmly with the Galway hurling “supporters” who flooded cp for the 2012 replay.
Wha? The next thing you’ll be telling me is the ratballer lying on the ground feigning injury is a serious sports lover and the ratball governing body that won’t address this blatant faggotry (no offense to the gay lads) of this ilk are
There are a lot of seriously delusional lads on here when faced with the levels of commitment and effort put in by professional ratballers vrs that put in by pro Rugby players.
Anyway as a spectacle, Rugby lords it over ratball. In fact the only thing ratball has over Rugby is that in the participation stakes, any cunt can kick a fucking round ball around the place. Whereas in Rugby a bit more is required.
“Serious sports lovers”
Would you ever fuck off  :D
What is ratball?

Are you making a suggestion that rugby players are from a different social background?

In fairness to football players they can feign injury without the need for fake blood and CGI. Sexton dived yesterday to win a penalty.

Any game where the rules are so technical that a referee ultimately decides winner and loser is never going to be a spectacle to most people which is why for all the bleating of blazer/boat shoe/jumper on shoulders wearing goys it is not taken seriously outside 5 countries.

If there was a highlights show from yesterday what would be the highlights apart from the tries. The missed penalties. Four forward throws (you don’t see four foul throws in a football match). The flying headbutt from Healy (?) to take out a French player that went unpunished. France destroying the Ireland scrum on the last set play and yet no sanction against Ireland/no France advantage.

An Irish sports pundit wearing a cravat on TV in a non ironic way.

It’s the Eurovision of sports - novelty value and if home will stick it on but nobody’s day is wrecked when Ireland lose. They wave to the camera anyway.

It was a joy to behold ,anytime you beat the old enemy France ( we haven’t forgotten that Jacobite scoundrel down here in Clare ) it’s a great day, Allez les gris. Going through the indo here in detail , were being spoken off in the White House again at last thanks to bod an co and not a Kennedy in sight.there is no doubt about it, rugby has arrived, fuck the begrudges

You sense that @fucked out has been waiting for a long time for this, he must have been seething.

I think that most of us will agree that this win is going to set this country back years in terms of sports development but I am genuinely happy for real supporters like @Anto, @tallback, @dancarter

Edit: and @Kid Chocolate

Cheers fran

Once in a generation, maybe twice, the likes of @fucked out will be able to crawl out from under their rock.

I hate raising this at a time of such unbridled joy for the nation , but does the fact our points equal England beat us fair and square in the head to head not take the gloss of this championship a bit ?

Dublin have a massive solid following, to deny that is just mental. Whatever you think about them they are not sunshine followers.

A bit like Cork beating the shit out of Clare in the Munster Championship takes the gloss of Clare’s win last year. Along with the drugs of course.

Dublin played Westmeath in the first round of the Leinster Championship 10 years ago.

comparing this rugby friendly tournament to the test matches played during the Carling Nations Cup is completely inaccurate, @Bandage please withdraw this slur on the great competition

Are you saying you agree then? It’s hard to tell as you’ve confused sports and competitions in this latest one

Withdrawn.

Strap in the seatbelts for Marian’s reflections on that “important little event in Paris” on her South Dublin Coffee Morning. Best listened to near a toilet. Actually scratch the seat-belt idea. You could choke.

Duh-duh-duh-duh duh-duh.

Dublin has a massive population, a huge portion of whom live within a short commute of the two stadiums they play nearly all their games in. When they dont go well they lose the majority of bandwagoners, theyll always get the crowd on the hill for whom its as much about saying you were there as the match itself. The club matches in the county are some of the poorest attended in the country for the population. All counties have bandwagons, i remember clare people saying in the 90s,we always followed them through thick and thin, before they then deciding to abandon them straight after, only to return when they make a semi final. I would rate mayo, waterford and armagh as having the best support.

I think the Dublin thing is only noticeable due to the shear numbers. Club has nothing to do with my points though. The dubs are well supported full stop IMO.

Mayo I agree, Armagh I’m not sure, but Waterford? Seriously? I would have thought they were the epitome of a bandwagon during the 2000’s. By the way, I have no issue with that, success breeds support, as it should.

I’d go with that Wexford always had great support. Cork have great support but are a huge and successful county. Waterford have a hardcore of about 7,000 supporters who would go to all the championship games come what may. Not bad for a county of 80,000 people not in the habit of winning things.
