Re: Kelly. That’s why he is so good. He does the right thing. He’s a Kerry footballer. If we had a couple of more brains like him we’d be very hard to beat. Brian & Barry O’ Driscoll are similar in composure and intelligence but lack experience yet. In the modern game players like Kelly are essential.
I think you are comparing him somewhat unfairly to Ciaran Killkenny, who has that drive and tackle breaking ability. He has a lot of Kelly’s other qualities also, but lacks the exact decision making qualities, yet. Barring injury I expect CK to be an all-time great. He is a freak talent, much like Connolly.
2 weeks ago cork had to then given the best 35 mins of football of the year.
When is the hear and now? This year? This week? Or do we go back to 1999 when we have to consider Armagh, or 2009 when was the last time Tyrone were contenders.
The here and now is that Cork blew their chance to beat an off par Kerry team. There is severe mental frailties in that side and they give away cheap goals. For all the pub talk you do about their forwards, they only managed to register 1-06 against a vulnerable Kerry back line.
Speaking hours before Saturday’s replay, however, O’Sé stood over those comments, claiming that while Cork did draw the first game they faced a Kerry side well below par and were unable to close out that contest. Ó Sé may argue that Kerry didn’t exactly conjure their A game on Saturday either yet still advanced. In fact, Cork’s two-point haul in the second half when the game was in the melting pot lends credence to Ó Sé’s claim that if you apply the pressure “they’ll just lie down”.
Was just thinking that the prospect of Neil McGee marking Damien Comer should result in a Croke Park sell-out for Galway-Donegal. Do you give Galway a chance, pal?
Yes, they have a chance but it depends on what Donegal turn up. The Donegal we say yesterday and against Derry could be in danger. The one we saw against Tyrone and Armagh would have enough for Galway.
These are my official rankings for the 12 teams left in the Championship
1 Mayo
Seem to have turned it up a notch. AoS at 14 just might be the missing piece of the jigsaw they’ve been looking for 2 Kerry
Champions on course again after winning Munster 3 Dublin
Cake-walked their way through Leinster. Yet to meet a serious side 4 Monaghan
Deserving Ulster champions. Need to make at least an semi final to solidify their progress 5 Cork
Unlucky not to beat Kerry the first day. A bit more swagger about them this year 6 Donegal
Their system that won them an AI under MacGuinness requires outright commitment and sacrifice. It’s proving a hard thing for them to maintain 7 Galway
Looking more sure of themselves with each game. Clearly a side on an upward curve 8 Tyrone
They have not gone away but an easy run through the qualifiers means their stock is hard to measure 9 Westmeath
A good year for them no matter what. Some real talent there for them to build on in the coming years 10 Kildare
Capable of an ambush against Cork but unlikely 11 Sligo
Decent against Roscommon, blown away by Mayo. Important they make a contest of it against Tyrone 12 Fermanagh
Real opportunity for them of making an QF. Fair fucks if they can do it.
Signing into Sky Sports 3 for Westmeath-Fermanagh. Heslin and Egan are out with injuries for Westmeath. I backed Fermanagh -2 at 6/4 earlier in the week. Hoping Quigley and Corrigan do some damage here.
Great banter. Rachel mischievously asked Senan: How much have Fermanagh improved since Peter left? She gave Canavan a cheeky little smile then. Lovely stuff.
