Although it would be an outrageous length of ban, its probably the best thing they can do to stop diving in the game

Nobody gets free rein. Some posts get flagged for attention, some don’t. The “humorous” post titles today met with the full wrath of my moderating toolkit.
Looks like they are doing him with discrediting the association, minimum 8 week ban. The rage and whataboutery by the Tyrone mugs on twitter tonight is a joy to behold. 
Have they not done away with time based suspensions and replaced them (at intercounty level anyway) with match bans instead?
It was embarrassing what he did but you’d get less for punching a lad in the jaw. A one game ban and statement from the GAA saying that diving or feigning of injury of any type will be clamped down on and punished would suffice. Message sent out that it won’t be tolerated. It has been going on for years but someone has to be the first guinea pig. Shields should get the same punishment for his antics versus Kerry in the replay.
Marty Duffy should be dropped from the refs panel for a couple of games for his part in it too.
No report of a ban anywhere except some paranoid ramblings about Dublin journalists asking for a ban. GAA are stupid at times but not that stupid I hope

IF the ref hadn’t sent off the Monaghan chap and booked McCann would the Sunday game have covered it and would hq have got involved? I doubt it…

Good point. He’s getting banned because of a refereeing error. Something needs to be done to eradicate diving and video evidence should be used but it should be from a defined point forward and the punishments should be clear and defined.
Yes, they would have as it was a Northern team involved.
McCann deserves to be punished but an 8 week suspension is an absolute joke. Typical GAA. Yerra.

Wait, thats the rule they have him under, they cant simply make them up to suit this. So you expect them to draft a rule in this instance? Were they meant to have a rule sitting there in case some wanker decided to start throwing himself to the ground? Misconduct considered to have discredited the association is a catch and its all they have now to at least have the conversation. You cant have it both ways.
Why not use it for Shields or even Joe Sheridan for cheating against Louth that time. Both discredited the organisation with the aim of winning. It’s the inconsistency I find baffling when so much other shit gets ignored.

Ah, I thought you were arguing about the 8 weeks. I agree Shields should have been nailed and said as much above. I have no real opinion on Shields, but I’d like to see him called in anyway and given a lifetime ban for starting all of this.
Joe Sheridan, I’m not so sure about, he attempted to kick the ball over the line, he was just an awkward cunt, after that point it was all the referee.
When this goes through the proper channels there is not a hope of it being upheld. It’s typical of the anti-Northern mandate in place.
Remember they tried to ban Gormley for wrestling with Mone in 2013 and we had to appeal that.
